Finished my 445nm laser, question about glass lens.

I just finished my (first) new 445nm guidesman host laser the other day, the thing is damn bright and I'm scared to play with it before I get my glasses(already ordered). I have a question about the glass lens.

The Aixis glass lens is longer than the acrylic, and thererfore doesn't screw in as far, and ends up sticking out. Are there any risks to screwing it in too far(such as cracking/scratching the diode and/or the lens itself)?

What ways have people come up with to prevent it from being screwed in too far if it is indeed bad for the diode/lens?

Thanks!

Edit: Also, is there a way to test the power output of my driver once the diode has been attached? I'd like to know how many amps it's putting out, as I think my pot was way too jumpy and might have moved when I was attaching it to the coin heat-sink.
Would the diode itself theoretically work as a test load?
