Well once again inspired by our own mag-lite pro jayrob I tossed around the idea about building a 445nm 9mm "stubby".​

Welp here is one handful of insanity:evil: or a perfect example of shear overkill:bowdown:​

Studying some builds @CPF and other sites I found some techniques and ideas for the "EH" event horizon build, one, was I wanted to press mount the threads (makes for a cleaner look IMHO) then, I wanted an extended heatsink with the 45 degree angle cut I have been known for. Yea man, the thing weighs a couple pounds:crackup:​

Here is a pic of the pressed threads. I used good ol JB weld to hold it into place, not that it needed it.:whistle:

I found a way to be able to use 2 different battery sizes either 1 26650 or 1 32650 by having a reamed groove in the driver sink, or pill, I can lower or raise the sink to match the battery:shhh: The set screws(M3x.5) tapped in the threads on the head of the host are sunk so the threads can pass each other.

I'm using a SXB super X-Boost V2 sourced from our head driver designer laseerer:bowdown: it's set @2.445A. I binned the diode and found the sweet spot to be around 2.5A:drool:.

I loved the assembly of this unit it's a very hardy build, very heavy solid and has tons of metal in there:whistle:.

Ok, here are the numbers. 2.44@ sh*t..... topped out my meter in 12 seconds so who knows:o:whistle:. I used the stock 9mm lens. I'm using the McClicky switch which is struggling at the 5.65A current draw at the tailcap:gun:. The label in the chart was from the 2.1A SBX super V1 I had in there previous. It was a fixed resistor (no pot) for testing. I forgot to change the header before I ran the LPM for the V2 which is reflected in the graph:undecided:

Now this is what I call a laser built with a big heart!

It looks sturdy and heavy, the battery variability (fat vs. fatter:D) is a damn handy feature. The runtime must be very decent due to the amount of aluminium used.

Shiny silver, big blue beamer.

I would really like to see the Max Power of this unit. I bet you its well over 3W.:drool:

Is there a way you can use a filter or something to cut the power in half then you can just add the 2 numbers together or something to get a pretty ruff/accurate power reading..?

Looks Like a Freak diode. I bet you this a super freak "D Binned" Diode.

WOW. Really looks sick man.

The McClicky should have no problem at all handling the currant. People have tested those switches past 10A I think. SO you are more then fine.:) Even the stock switch you will be OK.

It blows my mind every time I see someone use the SXB in a build at these currants since its a one cell setup. It makes me so happy to see as this is exactly what i designed the driver for.. Iam very happy with this driver. Its Crazy that we can now Power a 9mm diode at full currant with Plenty of Extra head room in the driver MAX Output (AKA Not even close of running the driver hard) Hell your not even pushing the driver at 2.5A as far as MAX output goes down to 3.6v and even less..:)

Its a beast and thats exactly why i made it specifically for the 9mm diode as the 9mm 445nm/450nm diodes are monsters.!:drool:

This build is Impressive.!

I bet you dont feel any heat come off this build for at least a minute or 2 with those beefy heatsinks.!

Thanks Angelos... Your right, it will power this diode down to 3.6V in testing 3.4V. I want to say anyone wanting a Lamborghini in their 9mm build this is the driver. It never even gets hot. I fear for the battery out of all the components in this build the most and those KD 32650 are very robust.

I'm think about making a judco tail switch as the McClicky is struggling on cold start ups I can hear it singing on start up.:crackup:
 
Just found this. VERY, VERY, NICE !!!! Clean lines !!!! HD heat sink gives a good home to a hot running LD !!! Thanx for sharing !!!! When I get to building another 9mm 445....I want to do a clone of this !!! It JUST looks GOOD !!!!!
