Just concerned about the stuff I can't see - does 445nm release much IR or UV? I've decided to get me a 1 - 1.5 watt watt beam and will be getting safety glasses, but just concerned about any invisible crap that may get through

No IR or UV. The 445nm light is dangerous all by itself ;)

^^That's what makes it great though. Buy appropriate safety glasses, and you can enjoy the dangers without the negative consequences.

so am I right to say only green lasers emit IR? Is it because the green diode is originally an IR diode chirped into green frequency and some IR leaks through? (I read that somewhere but can't remember the details)

Green is not the only DPSS laser to leak IR. There are other lasers that will leak IR without the appropriate filter.

The 445nm you are speaking of is commonly a diode. Diodes do not leak IR because they are not pumped by an IR source.
