Default DL Spartan 1W comes with no label on it?

Hi, just got this laser which supposed to a 1W laser. However it came with no label on it, neither on the laser itself nor on the antistatic bag bag that wraps it. simply nothing.

Did anyone else encounter with it?

How will I know if it is realy the 1W spartan (I don't own a LPM)?

Do I have to be satisfied with the fact that it has a rectangular dot and it can burn a match as indications that this is realy the 1W?

Isn't there some written note with the measured power shipped with the laser?

If you paid for the 1W Spartan you got the 1W Spartan. Dragon Lasers is a very good company and wouldn't scam like that. Not that you're accusing them of scamming, just that you can rest assured you'll get what you pay for and more if buying from DL.

Default Re: DL Spartan 1W comes with no label on it?

The Spartan series do not have labels on them. They are simple and well made, with no safety features. Users on the forum with access to a LPM have found them to be over spec, more in the 1,200mW range.

If your laser has a rectangle shape, then it is indeed the 1W variation. The >400mW Spartan has a round beam, which is achieved by "clipping" the 1W beam around the edges, only allowing the center to come out(which produces a power loss that results in a 400+mW beam).

Of course the only way to tell what you laser is really outputting is by using a LPM, but Dragon Lasers sells CNI Units, which are well know for there consultancy, and being up to spec, or over spec.

Besides, just because a laser has a label on it saying its "X" mW does not mean its at that spec. Take a look at the Arctic, the warning label on it reads <1.25W....yet users has found it to be more like .7W...or 700mW.

Mine came in a anti-static bag....I can't really see taking up a issue with no bag as long as your laser came in working order.

Actually it says less than 1.25 W , ( <1.25 W) but yeah, agreed, labels do not mean anything.

If you can burn a match with 5mm wide unfocused beam, it's sure strong and not every underspec crappy laser can do that.

Thank you all guys for your replies. Obviously I was not accusing DL of scamming, since I am well aware of their good reputation. It's just that It's kind of bizarre to me that a product is coming withput any documentation attached to it. Even battery installation polarity I had to learn from reading a review here.

Well you can rest assured knowing it's at least up-to-spec, and if anything it's a couple hundred mW over. If you really want a label, I re-iterate Pyro's suggestion of making your own; it's actually quite easy.

Default Re: DL Spartan 1W comes with no label on it?

Mine came without lables as well and the beam look like a small thin line at far distances.

I owned LPMs so I was able to check my power. I was given a 1.2W at peak and 1.1W on average.

There is no polarity indications on my Spartan as well but there is a spring, so you know that end belongs to the negative point. Simply put, the negative goes in first, positive face outwards.

I can burn a match at point black well almost immediately within a second. It can burn a black trash bag well at close range. It can burn newspaper at close range. It can also pop black balloons at up to 30cm away.

Initally my Laser went dead and I thought it as a problem with a damage diode. I sent back my unit and I was later told that it was working fine. I can see you have a brand new unit, not sure if you will encounter the same problem as I do, but advise from Dragon Lasers that do at least charge and discharge your batteries like 4-5 times before use before your Spartan will achieve full potential.

I would advise AGAINST burning a match if it's closer than 10 cm (4 inches) to the laser aperture, the burts of a match will get all sorts of cr*p on your lens if you burn it up close!

i see, thx bro but i think the Spartan I have won't be able to achieve a <1sec burn time if I put it further.

Btw, my Spartan comes without a lens, just a cap with a hollow in the middle. Did you just said Spartan has lens?

If it didn't have lens, your laser beam at one meter distance would be 1 and half meter wide.

Every laser has lens. And one end of the beam is coming right out of it.

And yes, it would achieve <1 second burn time anywhere up to one meter. Since beam is more or less the same, at least for burning up a match, for that distance. Divergence plays a part but only gets noticeable after 1 meter.

I can burn a match with 700mW 445nm 5 mm wide beam at one meter distance at 1 second or so.

I always thought that glass thing I saw into the internl of the Spartan embedded deep into the Brass Heat Sink is the Laser Diode itself. Anyway, I don't know much how does most lens look like anyway, the only Lens I got is a G-1 from Daguin, but it looks big. The one I had inside the Spartan looks too small comparably. Once I got my RMA back, can I post some photos of my Spartan so you can show me better?

Well there is not much to see actually, unless you take it apart which voids the warranty.

If you want to see how laser diode and lens are assembled into our lasers, you can try building your own laser with laser diode and Aixiz housins we use here.

Do some research on that.

But if you have any questions at all, you can ask me no problem.

See this post for pictures of what the lens and housing look like.
