News of the laser has sparked a flurry of excitement on social networking websites.
One person wrote: "Real lasers that resemble Star Wars lightsabres, that can burn skin, cut through plastic and ignite matches - yes please."
Another wrote: "The fact that it looks like a lightsabre is even cooler."
One more said: "I must have this. Birthday present anyone? I will KILL things, with FIRE."

Legally speaking Casio have no authority to close the 445nm board, and again there's no law specifically preventing this. Information can only improve the situation - the cat is out of the bag as to the source, and maximum power of the diodes, and our emphasis on safety on here certainly isn't a bad thing.

It's a shame that Wicked's shameless publicity machine has probably killed a promising wing of this hobby, possibly for the forseeable future - and the media's "weapon" and "lightsaber" spin is not going to get the right message across to legislators and the public. If they change the projector to prevent this, either we going to have to get better at extracting these diodes, or the old ones are going to become like gold - Wicked probably have a stockpile, and will soon have exclusive control over the market for handheld 445nm diodes. Was this their plan all along?

Casio themselves can't close the 445nm board, but they could cost Avery a buttload of money, leaving him nothing for hosting costs etc, in which case you loose the whole of LPF!

Thanks to Wicked, the pointer hobby is gone! Won't be long before another law is passed on the regulations of pointers.

Not that big of a jump from a 300mW "pointer" to a 7oomW "problem" when the legal definition of "laser pointer" is 5mW. It's really going to be the hype and the resultant follow through in the hands of some fool that never heard of LPF that'll change things.

I think you guys are blowing out of proportion.
Casio is trying to save face but they are not going to kill themselves, or its consumers.
I dont think they mind to much the hobbyist playing with their projectors they dont want large company's doing it on large scale.
i expect wicked and nova to not sell these for very long but the market has millions of these projectors so they cant just take them back.
We all need to stay calm and wait for this storm to pass, we still have our 12x 405nm lasers pushing out huge power levels, this is just a bit more.
Give it a month and the frenzy will die down along with all the crap surrounding it.
Too many members are "freaking out" over PL decision.

PL is significantly more conservative than LPF. The admin wants to stay out of trouble.

People with money should stock up on those projectors for the future, It could be a fantastic investment or a waste of money when they get released cheaper and stronger. But all the saftey freaks emailing 'the proper channels' isnt helping our cause, even if they belive it is.....

Real problem is what Hmike intimates, the populace of this country and the world as well is becoming incredibly stupid with each passing generation. If it has a warning sticker that says it could blind/hurt you then you should head that warning, either people cant read anymore, or the brain is a thing of the past.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions about PL just yet. Paranoia is rampant.
I heard someone suggest that the federal govt. could file an injunction against
WL to prevent them from shipping the Arctic into the US.
This is a 'fluid' situation but we shouldn't drive ourselves up the walls speculating.

EDIT: I think i just speculated.

Folks there is NOT A SINGLE THING THE GOVERMENT can do to this forum.
Go do a quick google search on "weed forums" or, "firearms forum" hell,even "Illegal File downloads forum". All involving illegal things. Yet THEY ARE LEFT UNTOUCHED. CRAZY RIGHT!!
Guys if people can run forums that host Warez and Illegal files,then we can talk about our favorite toys.
What do you think?

They are untouched for the time being ;)

If you recall in 2009 ThePirateBay.org which was one of the largest torrent trackers on the internet ended with the 4 people running the site each getting sentenced to a year in jail and being hit with millions of dollars in fines they need to pay when they get out. They said the government couldn't touch them and they had laws to protect them. This did not help once all the big guys started putting pressure on the government to go after them. So just know this, if you are not the biggest site attracting the most attention your good to go. But if you are the biggest guy where taking you out would make the biggest example then your not safe reguardless of any law. Money is what drives the law, not actual justice :mad:

The Pirate Bay was only down for a couple of days :p Also, it was a mistrial after the judge was accused of being biased. They did no jail time and paid no fines. TPB still remains up and going strong to this very day :D

Can you link me to the story. Because I get a 404 trying to go to ThePirateBay.org and everything I see on wikipedia still says they got screwed. Can you give me the IP of the site you are connecting to?
