Check all of your connections and see if you don't have a small strand of solder or wire touching some where.
You might also have a problem on your pot, turn it down just a hair. I have had a pot that would have short when it was turned up all the way.

It does't take much to cause problem on electronics. I recieved a circuit board for a high speed door and it was supposed to be for 480v, I got it all wired in and turned on the power. I started to go thru the set up and touched the run button on the board and the board blew up in my face. Come to find out the board was for 208v.
