Some of you may have seen the 650nm build I did with my HDS a while back over on CPF, unfortunately that diode eventually poofed on me 'cause I was seriously overdriving it. Well, when these new diodes came out they seemed the perfect match for the available current levels in my HDS and I just had to try it out. So here's the new setup, I don't have an LPM so power is guesstimated based on current to the diode:

Level 4- 250ma/ 250mw
Level 3- 400ma/ 400mw
Level 2- 667ma/ 650mw
Level 1- 1200ma/ >1000mw:eg:
Button lock enabled, force setting to come on at level 4 for safety. Custom aluminum heatsink with Aixiz 445nm lens.

And here's my Mag XL100 build, seemed like a neat idea at the time. It's direct drive with all the cool XL100 features intact, which means dimmability, button lock, strobe, etc. It has a custom 1 1/2oz aluminum heatsink with a pressed in Aixiz module and 445nm lens. Current draw is about 600ma on a fresh set of Lithium AAA's which should put it around a solid 500mw or so on high. I actually remembered to get pics of this one before assembly too.

Which one? My HDS probably isn't going anywhere but the Mag might;) pm me if you'd like.

How are you getting a variable output, and how do you set it? I'd be interested in a build that can do this since I'd like to have something that I can use at work at low power as a pointer, (say, 50mw) and then have the option to run it up to full power when I get the urge to burn stuff at home when I have my safety glasses on.

Quality builds !

My only gripe...and its just nit picking....is the recessed "reflector" , youve sacrificed valuble heatsinking.

As i say, just my 2c .

The HDS has a programmable CC/CV setup with 4 multiple levels. Too much to explain right now but if you look up HDS lights on CPF it will all make sense.

The Maglite uses PWM to achieve dimming. The cool thing on this one is the "motion control", definetely a neat way to do it. Again, not enough time for details this morning but CPF can help on this one as well. This one was kind of built on a whim, so if you're interested in it drop me a PM. Otherwise it will probably just sit on my shelf, sad and lonely.

I guess I forgot to mention that the heatsinks were turned by me out of 1" aluminum barstock. On the Mag, the sink weighs well over an ounce as is so the little amount lost by recessing it is negligible. The HDS has thermal limiting so the smaller sink is also a moot point (not that I've had it kick in yet).

Hey nice job! Those Mag lights have a cool switch that can give many variable settings...

Did you keep the switch? And does your laser dim, SOS, etc... via the switch?

Please give a little more information on that particular build. :)

What driver? Stock flashlight driver? The switch is what really interests me, and that leads to the driver questions...

Thanks!
