Simplicity, cost, and knowledge required for operation. Although HeNes are about as easy as diode lasers.. :shhh:
it seem its a lost of interest in the wavelength in favor of burning power... makes me cry myself to sleep
btw LOL at your post count

I was watching a youtube video that Gizmodo had posted and a production process with "liquid metal" and ceramics, and they mentioned that it takes a 6,000W Laser to engrave into the metal...I was like WTF, ha.(and the laser in the video was green...)

lol i bought a magnifying glass for my argon thats coming.

if you get a dorito packet with black on it you can slice straight through it like a knife. at least I can with my 900mW 445 properly focused. failz on lack of arctic focusing. :p

The Arctic is Underspec. It's not going to be hitting 1000mW very often, if at all.

Even with a full watt, your not going to be burning white paper unless you direct the beam onto the black text. The white on the paper reflects enough of the light to stop it from burning, but the black in k will absorb enough to create enough heat to burn.

My focused DIY build (well under a watt) burns white paper.

Speaking of burning potato chip bags. I got agrovated after a vending machine took my money twice for a bag of jalapeno Krunchers. So I figured it was my bag and I could do with it as I please.

This is not an endorsement to vandalize vending machines.

It is not that clear in the video but it was slicing lines through the bag like nothing.

EDIT
Here is a pic

I know its not likely but what if that bag started on fire?!

My 6x drills through typing paper pretty good @ just under 250mW.
Takes a lot of effort though.

Mine is instant. I can literally write. Not as fast as with a pen, but close.

I can burn through white cloth as well, like a blanket. Much slower though.

EDIT: Jesus Christ, that's huge. How do I resize that?

With that said anything is possible and on second thought probably not a good idea.
