AixiZ 445nm lens...

The diode is "multimode" (there are different kinds of multimode).
The rectangular or bar shaped output is characteristic of multimode laser diodes.

The multi-element lens does make for better divergence and a shorter "line" at a distance compared to a single element aspheric.

Both.
The 3 element Aixiz lens has a slightly longer focal length than the single element offered by Jay and Larry.
This means that the lens needs to be positioned farther away from the diode, so some of the light does not make it into the lens. Also, the numerical aperture of the aspherics is large in order to collect as much light as possible.
The Aixiz lenses were designed for a clean, low divergence beam.
The Aspherics were designed for max power.
 
I tried both Aixiz glass lens for red lasers and Aixiz acrylic and must say that divergence was the same (Didn't do measurements but I watched dot at 10 meters and it was easy to see how big line is). Lines were the same length and acrylic lens provided very clean line and with glass lens I noticed some reflections around line.
I don't think that 3-element lens improves divergence and beam shape.

That is what I noticed from quick test.
I should do it again to make measurements.
 
I also purchased via Ebay. Mine arrived this past Monday. Swapped out the G-1 lens from a previous build.
As others have found the power was way less than I expected.
After reading this post I remembered I still had a 650nm lens from a year ago that I had never used.
Yup! it is the same. Same reflective colors on lens and power output also matches.
Such a disappointment. I hope Chuck can get this sorted out.

I got my lens today and it reflects blue. I'm not happy with this, will there be a thread to gather everyone who got the wrong coating, or is everyone going to contact aixiz by themselves?
 
So correct me if I'm wrong, the only 2 people that received the correct 445nm lenses are the ones that Chuck himself knows by first name, otherwise they sent the rest of us a lens coated for red lasers; that just stinks.

You shouldn't have to go through a 3rd party to ensure you get the proper lens you paid for.

I very much appreciate all of Jayrobs photos on these, it helped out a lot. I have purchased from Jayrob several times, and he is top notch. I would have just bought these directly from him too, but I had already seen his orders for these were backed-up, and since you can get them directly, at the time it made more sense to just go to the source. Except now the source itself IS the problem.

I also remembered that hey I have a 405nm coated lens on a laser I bought from a builder on here, and I compared the two, and the difference is day/night when looking at the coatings; now it's very obvious many of us got the wrong lenses.

Jayrob's photos of what he received are spot on as to what they look like. Now I wonder how long before this gets sorted out for the rest of us??

I read the orders are backed-up/behind, yet for my 2nd order I got a notification that it was shipping and it was only 24hrs after it was placed........so now I'm scared they are sending more of the wrong lenses, boy I certainly hope not; but based on how they are suppose to be way behind in filling orders I'm not too confident the 2nd order that I now have a tracking number for will be correct.....please I hope that is not the case.

AixiZ are good people...

The will make it right. My guess is that you just got a free red lens. They got totally swamped with orders. And then they got the wrong lenses delivered I believe. The also had a large order of the correct lenses stopped at customs. And finally got an order of 100 properly coated lenses. But they have another 1100 lenses coming.

They will definitely sort it all out. But they got buried with orders, e-mails, phone calls, delivery issues, and so forth...

Remember that we custom ordered these to have a different nut than the original...

I'm sure the delivery department just made a mistake in sending the wrong lenses...

Now try it with a single-element glass lens, like a 405-g-1, and make your observations at no less than 20m.

I've had crappy experiences with 405-g-1 lenses myself. Every single-element glass lens that I've tried or seen from others experiences do not seem to give a very clean beam profile in the far field when compared to a multi-element setup. They all produce relatively clean profiles with similar divergence close to the aperture, but as you get farther and farther away the profiles turn to shit.. acrylics included. The multi-element lenses seem to keep a fairly clean beam profile even quite far away from the source.

Yes do that-- they will send you the right ones--I only meant that we should let jay sort out some of the issues- not the wrong lens ship snafu--

If I understood Chuck correctly the factory that makes these- is govt. owned in China--which, IMO, is not just the same as getting a private place to make the optics-(not to mention the language problems)- they did not want to even make them-- he had to press them to do it. either the first ones sent were wrong or there was a shipping switch made in Houston by mistake. AND -- FEDX did not help by returning them by mistake--AixiZ did not get thier entire order and so we did not ours either -yet.. Chuck wanted to send out the smaller orders first-- neither Jay nor myself got any special treatment--we are waiting on the balance of our orders--

Just a FYI--jayrob and I are not really making enough profit on these to make all this worth our while. And unless you just got yours today from AixiZ or from us-- they most likely will need to get replaced by just asking for the correct one and Chuck usually does not ask for the return of the wrong one...so by all means send them a message and my guess is that the one you wanted will be on the way asap..

on the 15% increase issue--Jay may be right- the China factory may have meant the increase is in reference to the old red glass lens---if you read my posts/thread I never said that the increase was verified independantly==yet--for what they cost-- the advantage of easier cleaning, better focus and no degradation or burnt acrylic far outweighs the increase in power issue.

after pp fees-shipping cost- packing stuff-hidden costs etc on the single lens orders I am making 14 cents or less!!!

Very true. It's not entirely that simple, in fact in my experience the single-element acrylic gives a cleaner beam than the 405-g-1, however separating these specific lenses by whether they are single or multi-element is a simple way to get a basic idea of what kind of beam they will produce, based on my own experience. Sure the math behind this stuff is complex, but for discussion here I think that simply distinguishing them by the number of elements is sufficient.
 
Jay, how are these a different nut? In your pic with the two lens assemblies. the UV
vs the 650nm lens do not look different... other than the yellow/Blue hue variation

edit: I think you implied different as in "full threaded" vs the half thread. Chuck should of had this in the making already IMHO.
