Default Re: AixiZ 445nm lens...

Hi all, I am a bit concerned. I received my replacement lenses from Aixiz today, it is different, I just don't think it's the right one. First of all, something about the lens has changed, I only thread the new lens on a couple turns to get the beam focused, so over half the lens hangs out. And the coating still doesn't seem right. With the original lens from last week, I get about 550mW. With the new lens that came today, the output drops to about 520mW. I had expected an increase. Looking at the coating, the reflection of the new lens appears to have a light blue tint. The one from last week had more of a purple tint. Neither one has the yellow/gold color reflection similar to the one shown by Jayrob.

Not trying to tell someone their business, but, after the first mistake you'd think quality control would be looking closer at the second batch.

This is getting frustrating. Here is the photo today of the 5 replacement lens assemblies w/overhead light:

Reflects the same color Blue I am trying to pass thru these lenses !!

Somebody at this company needs to look at the lenses they are shipping.

My orders have been mixed up in the past also.

Arrgg!!! I got my "replacement" lens today, which was supposed to replace to wrong one I received originally and it to is wrong as you can see from the pic below.

I'm totally cool with one mistake but twice now?? These really should be check before being sipped out.

Thank goodness I had ordered 3 from Hak and got the correct ones from him. I guess they checked the big bulk orders before shipping but not the small ones?

On the left: lens I received from Aixiz (wrong lens, I ordered 405nm-455nm AR coated). On the right: lens I received from Hak (correct 405nm-455nm AR coated lens)

I received my replacement lenses no pics as of yet, but to my eyes I can see a hint of purple/yellow hue. I don't have a meter YET, but I have a "burn" board that I compare some metered lasers to.

I'm satisfied.

Default Re: AixiZ 445nm lens...

I also received blue/purple coated lens for my 445nm LD's from Aixiz, so ordered from a UK stockist to save on time, But ended up receiving more blue coated lens "both ends" GRRRR
I do have x1 half threaded yellow coated & managed to retrieve the x3 lenses but at the cost of scagging up the retainer ring a little
I think a while back I read somthing about using heat to remove the retainer but was worried about cracking the glass etc.
So what heat technique is used to remove the retainer so I can put the yellow lens into a full threaded nut?

Edit*** Figured it out ~ My gas brulee torch did the trick!
a quick 360 rotation flame round the thread is just enough to soften the glue, it then un-screws apart with eaze

Wow, they really need to fix the mixup.

On another note, I got mine from Jayrob. It's great !

Didn't reflect blue, clean dot ! Burning power went up from acrylic.

The two lenses in your picture are NOT the same. The lens on the left is for red lasers, the lens on the right is for blue. You may already know that.. I wasn't sure what context the picture should be taken in.

Default Re: AixiZ 445nm lens...

Here is the deal.

Per the production schedule, all will be taken care of ASAP per our production schedule which was previously announced.

Don't kill us, please.

The lenses were produced in red and blue. The red lenses have a light blue tint, the lenses for blue have a combo light purple and light gold tint.

The lenses were all packed the same way but the bulk plastic baggies were marked as either red or blue.

The larger bulk orders I personally packed and those units are OK, the "one or two" lens orders it seemed were shipped from an incorrect bag in the same bin unnoticed by our two shipping guys.

This fortunately only affected a handful of people but nonetheless it is our mistake and we will be shipping 2 for 1 on the units for those people.

Folks, mistakes get made and we just have to correct it.

Chuck

Default Re: AixiZ 445nm lens...

There is an inherent problem with making all these comparisons: the power output of our LD lasers are very inconsistent unless the electronics are regulating the output power. As you know the power output fluctuates quite a bit. so unless these results, or any results where there is a comparison made, are from a power output regulated laser, the data is meaningless. the data would be better quality if it were average power and the t=time consistent across all test (and posted).

I'm just sayin.

I do a lot of statistical analysis and data gathering and we spend as much time planning testing that is going to have statistical relevance as actually analyzing the data. Simply changing out the lens in a typical laser device such as we use* is not going to yield meaningful results.

* that would be typical LDs and driver circuits that we tend to use such as 405's from blu-ray sleds, 445s from casio projects, etc. and dr.lava or equivalent drivers. and typical flashlight hosts with Al or Cu heatsinks

My lens comparison measurements were each taken after 30 seconds of the laser being on. At this point, the power had stabilized. However, I also averaged 5 measurements together for each lens. These averages are what I posted. Each time, there was not a significant difference in power.
