to start things off, I am fully aware that the title of this thread makes no sense.
anyway, i just finished my first 445, and i've been pretty ecstatic to put it bluntly. i think its about 1.6W, but I don't own an LPM, sorry. much thanks to ehgemus, Dr. Lava, dieselmarine, and the rest of the forum! heres the specs-
diode- A-140 from dieselmarine, came in great packaging without a scratch
lens- 405-445 from aixiz
host- beautiful direct press from ehgemus
battery- 18650 2400mAh
driver- flexdrive set to 1500mA, heatsinked with DTR's coin mod
time for some pics-
the laser! with some safety glasses of course. they let in about 3mW, which is perfect for burning.
the front of the laser. i'm using a cut up GITD clicky cap as a dust cap. works... ok.
the beautiful end, showing the smoothness of the polished aluminum and the clicky
my battery-
turned on, with that GITD tail cap glistening in its flourescence
pure simplicity at the aperture. amazing how even with a 445-colored background the beam is still so visible.
same, from a different angle
pretty much throwing my camera's light balance WAY off... hehe
just... wow. gotta love this thing.
shining on some flourescent ribbon i found. and the beginnings of a turbine... and under that a u-shaped potato cannon... :san:
camera was still pretty thrown off by the brightness... but you can see how thin the beam is on the narrow side.
the next few are some comparison shots with the infamous 405nm ebay pen, a "50mW" focalprice 2xAA greenie, and the masterpiece. i couldn't keep it on for long because it kept burning the walls ^.^ here's the points-
size comparison
so apparently 445 is purple and 532 is blueish, and 405 seems lonely and confused. yay for messed up color balance!
i assure you, 445nm does NOT look purple at all. just groovy and deep blue in the night sky.
P.S. so heres a funny story... on an unrelated issue, i was making a 200mW red for my friend out of some copper pipe, as i like doing it full DIY / i'm cheap and have a low budget. refer to picture: (notice how the button is IN the warning label- class right there.)
anyway, i found an aluminum ring and a brass washer that I thought would make a great focusing ring, as I had lost the plastic one that came with the aixiz module. my sleep deprived mind decided, "HEY! superglue would attach the lens and the 'focusing ring'!" and so I did, and proceeded to get superglue all over the threads. *note first mistake.* remembering that acetone is a solvent for superglue, I rubbed some on with a paper towel. it worked, but not fully. then another fantastic thought ran through my mind- "HEY! why don't I just soak the lens in acetone!" and so i did for around 10 minutes. I took it out and this is what I saw-
turns out acetone dissolves plastic too. the acrylic lens looks OK to me, but it's not exactly... useable... and was my only extra lens.
this brings me to a plea for help. does anyone have a stock aixiz lens that they discarded to use some upgrade??? due to some recent fraud from some guy who apparently likes spending hundreds of dollars at nutrition stores, I am out of means of buying anything online for the moment, plus I don't feel like spending $4 for just the lens. i'd be willing to trade some small stuff- the lenses from an LPC-815 sled, slightly cracked, one lens from an A-140 projector, a picture of a turtle named steve, an all-purpose crime-solving magic McGyver device posing as a simple office paperclip, some camera flash capacitors (80-160uF, 330V), an aformentioned charging circuit, a big thank-you, etc. I'd like to keep it small and envelope-compatible and within the US, but any help would be MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!!
thanks for reading!
