the raw beams from olike lens are 5mm high by 1mm wide
so if you knife edge them the other way round they would be ---- so 20mm long.
it just wouldnt work

I thought of something different: having the mirrors come from the bottom or top instead of from the side. That way you could make the exact same pattern as you currently do, but 90 degrees rotated.
Perhaps its an idea to try on a future build, it also negates the need for a waveplate.

Wide beams are generally beneficial for laser show applications, since the goal is to have them seen. You usually want as large of a beam diameter as you can get without exceeding what your galvo mirrors can handle without losses. Laser shows usually don't need 'perfect' beams either which is why setups like this work quite well.

sorry but very very wrong.
a very tight ting 500mw beam will look just as bright as a wide fan 1watt beam.
if you know anything about lasers then you only want tight beams for laser shows.

My experience, albeit quite limited as it may be, is that wider lower divergent beams work better. But i'll bow to your more extensive experience.

You do know we're arguing over millimeters here right? I said not big enough to cause losses off the galvo mirrors... which aren't very large. Or at least haven't been on any decent speed scanning set i've seen.
