Default Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

I did test AixiZ acrylic (back opened) at the same current as the first post (475mA's), and it gave 293mW's...

So the AixiZ 405 glass lens was about 7% more power...

AxiZ acrylic gives a good dot, but faint wings spread out wide with small spots. The same as you see with blu-ray, except more noticeable because of the blue visibility...

But even at 293mW's, I seriously doubt that the acrylic material will hold up.

So I didn't even consider it as an option to use AixiZ acrylic...

By the way, I did glue on an Aixiz focus ring to my (half threaded) AixiZ 405 glass lens and it is not too bad at all like this...

So I'm thinking that this is good enough. (for now at least)

And I still think AixiZ can send them in the full length threaded nuts just like their normal AixiZ glass lenses...

@ Jayrob:
Have you measured what the losses are with the 405-G-1 lens?
I think that the 405nm coatings should be pretty effective, but if the losses are high it might be worth looking into getting a 445nm specific coating. Failing that, perhaps a 400-455nm broadband coating for blue?

@jayrob
What is FL of stock projector lens?

Aixiz BR lens works better because of longer FL
405-G-1 lens has shorter FL that means more power and worse divergence.

We should try more lenses.
We can try aspherical lenses from green laser pointers for example.
These lenses have longer FL, maybe we can achieve even better beam.
But power must be tested to see if they are efficient, or if they can collect all light from diode

It looks like the stock lens is put in backwards. Can you try the other way just in case?

Are you going to post a sales thread for these assemblies, or will we all just be able to order them from aixiz?

I'm sure we can just get them from AixiZ or the e-bay page from AixiZ...

The stock projector lens has a short focal length somewhere between 4.2 and 4.5mm. (guessing)

I have not tried to measure exact losses...

Just doing power comparisons. I do know that the AixiZ 405 lens assembly is a multiple element configuration. I would just guess that the coatings are within the 445 range, but that it's lower output in comparison to the 405-G-1 is mostly due to the way it 'clips' the wings and gives a cleaner output. (plus having to pass through more than one optic)

It's not a bad lens choice at all considering that this diode is multimode, and the lens is available right off the shelf for cheap...

It gives about 7% more power vs AixiZ acrylic (back opened) with this 445nm diode... (but acrylic is not really a consideration - just a power comparison)

WOW! This is great info jayrob! By the time I get my 18650 host and 445 diode in my hands I suspect there's going to be even more. I appreciate all of the experimentation you and the other LPF members will be doing on these diodes. This is going to be my first (or maybe second ) build I will have ever attempted.

I wonder if Aixiz will make a glass lens for 445nm just like they did for 405nm after it started to take off

Yeah I would think that trying to correct that output to perfection will be more effort that is really worth it... (or needed IMO)

The AixiZ 405 glass lens assembly really is not too bad at all. I mean, you have to remember that it is readily available, cheap, and threads right into an AixiZ module! Getting absolute perfection from this diode will probably mean a combination of optics that will not just thread into an AixiZ module... (most likely)

No, it's not absolutely perfect. But try it out, and see if you agree that all things considered... It's good enough!

These lenses already "correct" it pretty well. There's really no need for that for that in a pointer. Now in a projector it might be a different story.

Well there's going to be a ton of people testing different options in the coming days...

So it's possible that there will come an option that will be better!

I only tested the three glass lenses shown in the first post and found that the AixiZ 405 glass lens was 'good enough'. (IMO)

But hey, please let me know if you see that somebody finds a better configuration! Because there will be a lot of testing with this epic diode!
