Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

I think what Chuck meant by 15% better was that it would lose 15% less power than aixiz 405 glass. Say you had a laser putting out 400mw without a lens, and the 405 glass cut that by 25% to 300mw the aixiz 445 should make it go up to ~315mw. Not 345mw. That's what I got from what he said.
Edit: Like Jay said temperature affects these diodes a huge amount Jays 5mw less could have definetly been from other variables not just the lens.

When they made that statement, it is my guess that their lens coating company told them it would produce about 15% more power with 445 vs the normal AixiZ glass lenses for red... This makes sense. And this is about what it does produce!

I'm not disappointed at all. Because I knew it would no way be 15% better than what I tested with AixiZ 405. See here where I posted this opinion:

IMHO, I think it's the same as the AixiZ 405 lens configuration. Only it's in a full length threaded metal nut...

So why did they spend all this effort to change the coating? It's cool that they have it in full length and metal, but why spend all this time with a new coating that's totally useless? Just stick with the old coating and save us all some time...

Yes that's true...

And guess what... I don't care! :)

Because I got exactly what I ordered and wanted. Sure I was hopeful that maybe it would be a little better. But I knew that it would not be 15%...

I was hoping for maybe 4 or 5% realistically.

But I still don't care... I got what I ordered in full length threaded metal nuts.

So I'm happy with that!

P.S. What else are you going to use for $10 bucks?

I think you are being too critical.
It's very possible that other factors could determine the difference output power.
As mentioned, heat could be a possibility. Even at 640mA, that's 2.5W at the diode. These diodes will heat up, and power may fluctuate.

Also, it could be a manufacturing "defect." Perhaps tolerances on the brass lens nut are not that tight.
I've found that different 650 coated aixiz lenses sometimes yield different power on the same laser. Some of the lenses even "smudge" the beam profile at a distance if the elements are not perfectly centered.

I received one of the coated for red lenses by mistake, so my own testing is delayed, but I don't think that the results posted here are "bad."
5mW variation is negligible when dealing with 300+mW and can be caused by just about anything.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

I just re-tested the Aixiz 405 that I have with one of the new AixiZ UV lenses...

640mA...

* AixiZ 405: 533mW's
* AixiZ UV (new): 531mW's

The new lens was tested second. That means the heatsink was a little warmer because I only waited about 1 minute between tests...

At over 1/2 a Watt, it's not a big deal...

I'll bet at lower powers it will be even less noticeable. If noticeable at all! Different coating or not, it's the same result...

I'm stoked Jay! You probably won't have one left over for me, since I hadn't ordered one, but I would love one if you did. It's basically the only option we have going to get a tighter beam at distance with a realistic price tag. Anyone who wants to risk acrylic aixiz go ahead. I know I don't. I love the 405-G-1 I purchased from you, but my budget only allowed for one of those beauties.

Hahaha, good point.

Just wondering, is the threaded nut longer in length or a tighter fit than the 405 coated one ?

I am very happy these are coming Jay!:bowdown::bowdown: I don't understand those who expected much more, as these were always considered the lens for a better dot, not maximum output power, that is always going to be the 405 G-1 but just look at the dot and price!:wave::wave: It's a winner in my book! Many thanks Jay!!! -Glenn

Absolutely! Hope they get to you today Glenn, if not, for sure tomorrow...

It's just like the normal AixiZ glass lens for red. It sticks out the front. That's why I make custom Focus knobs and custom EzFocus adapters that are threaded onto the lens. They are threaded 'deeper' than an AixiZ focus ring. That way they screw farther onto the extra lens barrel that sticks out.
http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/f...ezfocus-adapter-aixiz-glass-lenses-51727.html

But the threads are not a 'tight' fit into an AixiZ module. The normal spring for the AixiZ module is recommended. And I like to also use a couple of wraps of Teflon tape. If you have 1/4" Teflon tape, it is perfect...

I will have more... The 20 that I have left are all spoken for. I am filling (and taking) orders on a 'date paid' basis. I also have 60 more ordered. So yes, I will have them. These are great lenses for this 445 diode...

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

Do the aixiz 405 lens have the same full threaded nuts ?

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

No, we custom ordered the AixiZ 405 lenses in this full length configuration...

I think that is where all the confusion is. (IMO)

I honestly do not think it is a different coating than AixiZ 405, but that is just my personal opinion...

In my opinion, I think there was some miss communication when the factory put these into a full length threaded nut by special order. Something different than AixiZ normally orders.

So that probably caused communication like.... "these will be 15% better with 445" And so forth and so on...

Anyway, no need to keep on and on right?

This is what is available, and it is awesome. It is what I originally ordered. (AixiZ 405 in full length threaded metal nut)

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

Can't wait till I get my "new coating" 405nm glass lens from Aixiz.
Then I'll actually be able to start using my 445nm!

So just so I know what to check for when I get my lens, the AR coating on these new lens have a yellow/red tint to it? At least that's what it looks like in Jayrob's picture.

I hear ya! I've been using my casio glass in an aixiz housing for a while now, gross!

How? Pics?
Just pull the back off of an aixiz plastic lens module with some pliers. It's not actually attached, it's just a plastic ring. Then you can just stick the lens in there and put the back retainer back on.
