Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

probably been stopped to check if something undeclared is shipped, or to check if taxes are all clean..? my guess..

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

any incoming order of greater than $2000 USD is "Formal," no matter what is it. Yes, if the paperwork was not right, or other glitch, Customs can hold it. maybe a duty issue, anything. If they used the word "laser" like 445nm laser lens, then it's a red flag. It could be held at impound of Customs broker like thise used by UPS, Fed EX DHL, etc. OR it could be at the Post Office if EMS, International Prio mail.

Just to stirr things up, I know it is- a value thing... bring in 1500 lenses at unit price of $1.34 took them over the $2000 limit.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

No good. I turned the lens around, it won't focus properly at all. I'm sticking with round side in.

Are you sure the diode is still in good shape- Not burned? That's all I could think of, maybe in your current testing the power may be low for testing, and it's actually a damaged diode. If so, the beam pattern of the diode could be way off and then the match with the lens is backwards. With the discussion, i just had to tripple check for myself:
I just verified with a brand new projector... the lenses are flatter side towards the diode, like jayrob, and others have said. I know this was so for collimation of modules, but wanted to be sure the set up in the CASIO units was similar, and it is.
weird!

WTF.... I know for a fact my diode is working nominally, maybe my eyes are just broken from the burning 445 dot of justice. Well, I get to ditch this awful lens soon as aixiz just started shipping the broad spectrum lenses :D

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

If your diode is pressed in correctly, then it's just a matter of the lens being close enough to the diode...

It sounds like you just don't have the lens close to the end of the lens nut so that it can be very close to the diode is all...

But it's not a good lens for a pointer anyway. so it doesn't matter...

Exactly, it really doesn't matter. I'll only get concerned if the aixiz one fails to work properly. And I'm sure I have it pressed flush, maybe <.5mm sticking out but it's not enough to cause problems.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

This post is worthy of putting in this thread as well...

The good news is...

I got my partial order today and they are correct! :)

445%20lens%2010.jpg

I only unwrapped one of the lenses. And I'm just taking it for granted that they are all the same...

People who have outstanding orders with me please be patient. I have a back log of orders that I will be filling on a 'date paid' basis.

scopeguy20 and SpyderFire, I'll get your guy's lenses in the mail today...

I tested the one that I unwrapped, and it was just about the same power as with the AixiZ 405 lens that I originally tested in the first post of this thread. (about 5 mW's less power at 640mA's - Close enough!)

So these are what we have been waiting for in the full threaded metal nuts...

I don't know what happened with some of the other lenses that got sent out with a bluish tint. Perhaps a shipping department error...

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

Finally! But are you saying these give 5mW LESS power at the same current?

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

Yes that's what I measured at 640mA's. But it could be only the difference in the diode temperature...

So at that power, 5mW's is not anything to worry about...

WTF? I thought these were supposed to give us 15-20% MORE than the aixiz 405... we waited like 2 weeks to get less than/the same power as before?

In hell there's a fabulous mosaic of the whole world. A mosaic which grows in size and detail each day. A mosaic whose tiles are the broken dreams of man.

You may have missed my post about this, but I always knew that it could not possibly be 15% better than the AixiZ 405. It could not. Because my single element 405-G-1 is only 15% better than AixiZ 405...

Edit: When they made that statement, it is my guess that their lens coating company told them it would produce about 15% more power with 445 vs the normal AixiZ glass lenses for red... This makes sense. And this is about what it does produce!

This is a 3 element lens configuration. So how could it possibly be as good as a single element 'good design' like my 405-G-1 when it has to pass through three different optics, and get 'clipped' as well??

This is a win! Full length threads, metal nut... :)

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

Well yeah, I wasn't expecting single element performance but there's no reason a new coating should cause a power LOSS... It's basically the same thing with no perfomance increase. That's a big disappointment IMO. I don't think it was worth the weeks we've waited or the problems it's caused for sellers, I would have taken the standard 405 lens considering I get more power and I actually get to use it. I guess now that they have it we might as well use it, but I'm still angry about this... Maybe I'm just being negative but it seems like this could all be avoided.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

I think what Chuck meant by 15% better was that it would lose 15% less power than aixiz 405 glass. Say you had a laser putting out 400mw without a lens, and the 405 glass cut that by 25% to 300mw the aixiz 445 should make it go up to ~315mw. Not 345mw. That's what I got from what he said.
Edit: Like Jay said temperature affects these diodes a huge amount Jays 5mw less could have definetly been from other variables not just the lens.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

At 640mA I don't think temp matters much. If there was any performance increase we would have seen it, unless he moved his laser to the south pole or the Mojave desert.

Re: 445nm A130 Lens Comparisons!

With my laser set to 675ma 10 degrees lower makes it output consistantly 20mw higher, so yes, it does matter.
