Re: *445nm lasers* !diodes 38.50$!

Put a blob of solder over the positive pin stub so that the pin is connected to the case of the diode. Now you can use the pin that is cut shorter as your positive lead, or you can just use the housing of your diode as +.

Re: *445nm lasers* !diodes 38.50$!

I managed to snip the plastic pin spacer away without removing the shorting wire and without stressing any of the pins.

The most effective place to cool this package would be on the face that the wires come out of. You'd have to have some fine holes to let the (insulated) wires out through. Does anyone heatsink diodes that way?

/\ I haven't seen anyone go through the trouble to heatsink via the back plate but I would love to see people start.

So far I only use deeper diode pockets.

In the end I might just have to do that. As it is, I'm already resigned to using it as a labby only, on a beefy heat sink. Originally, it was going into a host-negative light, but the solder connection if I keep it isolated from the case is just too fragile.

I don't know how I did it, I wasn't using tweezers or pliers or anything, just my fingers, and just to test how smoothly the spacer would slide...

I'm glad I didn't cut a pin when I yanked off the diode spacer on my last build, that would have sucked. Thanks for letting us know that this can happen, I'll be more careful next time.

Found this in his Visitor Messages kiyoukan/#vmessage3342

Got mine yesterday in Germany.

Could not resist and powered it up quick and dirty and I have already seen some blue photons @ 300mA. After a second or two this thing becomes damn hot, so better don't try unmounted. Luckily mine has survived that w/o heat sink. Hopefully it has not suffered permanent degradation now.

Kiyoukan, the packaging was excellent and the diode might have even survived an airplane crash. Thanks a lot for all the hassle :gj:

okay some packages did not get shipped as planned.
I was shipping some of the packages out threw my fathers office carrier but they were small so there was never a problem but when i sent him larger packages aka the parts, he was unable to take them as i found out he rides a motorcycle and was unable to carry them
I got the packages back late last night and will have them in the mail by 6pm today.
i logged on a portable device aka my DS and found it very hard to do anything with answered a few Q but i have been busy.
Once again i am back to my main pc with hopefully the last push to get every thing done with this group buy.
And TJ i am also just sending you the 3 mirrors that survived the extraction for free.
A few others might just find a few random other bits in your package.
i just have to many parts cluttering up my work space and thought some of you might want them.
