Re: *445nm lasers* !diodes 38.50$!

i wish i could but being that they had no blades over 3in if i had a gun i would be in jail.
nothing in life monetary or not is worth a persons life i came out alive and ready to defend but not to kill.
vicodin and muscle relaxants also help.

Live and let live.

Glad you got some vicodin though :san:

Here's wishing you a speedy, cloudy recovery!

Your kidding, geez maybe you should move; around here you'd most likely get blown away and then the Sheriff and Mayor would give you the keys to the City for getting the low life off the street; I'm always armed, well OK not while I'm on the beach swimming. :)

You know Fox just had a story about Chicago and how they can't carry handguns and yet they have the highest gun crime in the country.

The local Sheriff cited facts about how when laws got changed for law abiding citizens being allowed to carry guns, how the crime rate has went down in 35 states....Why because until then only criminals carried guns, cause they don't follow the laws in the first place.

Now in 35+ states the criminals know they is a fairly good chance if you pull a stunt like what just happened to you, it could very well cost the bad guy HIS life.

I used to live in a State that didn't allow it's citizens to carry or have almost anything, except of course LEO's and all the criminals. For that reason and couple of others, I finally got tired of it and pulled stacks and moved out of that State and I'm so darn glad I did, especially when I hear heart breaking stories like yours.

I wish you a God speedy recovery.

Wait, are you saying you got mugged, and then beat up because you didn't have enough money? Am I reading that right? WTF.. I really am considering the 'secondary fake wallet' thing now.. with expired credit cards and $20 in it...

Re: *445nm lasers* !diodes 38.50$!

Yea I seen stuff like this on the News before, the crooks now get even madder at you IF as a victum you didn't have enough money or items to make the crime "worth it" to (risk) them.

So they actually beat you up even worse and in some cases will kill you for not having much in value to be taken in the first place; it's a very upsetting trend that is starting to occur.

That is why I'm a big advocate that if it's legal where you live, to start carrying a handgun, you should certainly do so, then IF attacked....Kill them before they kill you.

Our local Sheriff was just on Fox News the other day talking about this, and told the public he believes ALL law abiding citizens should carry a handgun and he encourages this.

Let the crooks/thugs be put on notice that if they attack a seemingly innocent/meek victim, that the Bad Guy could wind-up dead, and so be it. Yea the Sheriff around here is a bit outspoken, but he tells it like it is.

well i could carry a hand gun around but the school go to has banned them to be on your person they are only allowed in your car.
They are starting to lobby to let us carry on campus but it has yet to be decided.
People are worried that there will be fatality's,
So far no one has died from any the attacks the worst has been a broken arm and shattered ankle.
So it seems their going to wait for someone to die before they let us carry guns.

Where I went to school the dorm area was completely caged in. Talking tall fences with aesthetically pleasing sharp spikes on top and the jail turnstiles with the interleaving bars. People still got mugged, but it was downtown atlanta. Personal protection is the only way, really, if it's in a big city.

This makes me think that since guns and knives are illegal why not use a hand held laser of sufficient power? (these laser diodes for instance)

And blind the guy for life, which will then produce even more bad media for lasers...

Wait, crook! Please stand still while I focus my laser for optimal retina damage!

No, its not a good idea. Its been discussed many times around here.

With a laser such as these there is no need to blind your attacker in order to harm them.
Besides if it was ever taken to court the laser in question would be a defensive weapon
and likely treated as would a stun gun or pepper spray considering the fact that it would be in the non lethal category.

Re: *445nm lasers* !diodes 38.50$!

What do you mean no need to blind?

They really don't make people spontaneously ignite like the media wants you to think. Once again, you would need him to stand still while you focus the laser for optimal skin burning, which would not be painful enough to stop anybody.

Do you even own a high powered laser? They are very poor tools for self defense. The only thing they would be remotely good for would be either blinding or flashblinding someone then running away, but you would need perfect aim with a prefect focus, both of which are herd to obtain in a situation like that.

And I doubt the laser would be considered a defensive weapon, in fact it would probably be considered undue or excessive force. If you were to blind that guy he would come back and sue you, and he would probably win. It would be better just to kill him...

My military firearms instructor always said, "You only want one person (yourself) standing in court telling the story about what happened."

That's horrible Kiyoukan. Sorry that happened to you.

Insane but there has been cases like that if I'm not mistaken.

long story short i am no longer walking to class with my knives in my car.

I would also recommend pepper spray containing OC & CN/CS (unless you have asthma). I'm not talking about those tiny "keychain" ones. If your in a higher crime area go for a large container that you can sweep a few attackers with.
If you doubt its effectiveness just try a tiny bit on your self. Really hard to attack when you can't open your eyes.
Of course don't use it one anyone with a gun or if they are way too close with a knife.

I think a laser this powerful could be used unfocused to make a large spot to use like a high power flashlight. It would just disorient or flashblind the person, if it was unfocused to a large spot it might not cause permanent damage, plus you wouldn't need to have very good aim for it to work.

Either way it's a pretty poor defense tool though. Carry a knife or pepper spray I guess.

And that is the absolute truth, nothing worse than wounding someone trying to protect yourself but not wanting to kill him; only for them to come back and sue you for everything. Dead people can't tell stories and testify against you.

You should only pull a gun on someone when you are convinced you have no choice and be prepared as you can be, to kill him. There is a reason why the weapon is concealed in the first place, it's not to point it at someone and threaten them to stop.

You pull the Gun out, you better shoot to kill; otherwise in the heat of the moment they'll get the drop on you instead.

Stay safe.
