Re: *445nm lasers* !arrays 550$ and diodes 35$!

Put me down for 2 diodes. It's a shame I didn't see this before picking one up on ebay.

Be happy you did not buy one of the $500 diodes before we found the projector source :(

Peace,

Re: *445nm lasers* !arrays 550$ and diodes 35$!

I couldn't find replacement arrays for less than $1200 myself..

I, literally, laughed out loud when I received that quote

Peace,

Trust it or not, this is the common marketing strategy for spare parts, all around the world ..... a spare part ALWAYS cost you much more than the cost that it have in a finished machine :p

Before having this shop, i worked almost 20 years in a tech company as repairer, propotype developers and electronic technician in general ..... and i can say you first hand that, with the price that you will pay buying all the parts that you need for assemble one of the machines we was selling, you can buy 3 and half of them new, assembled and tested .....

The main gain of a company is not from sold machines, is from spare parts and consumables :p

So true. I didn't think I would ever own a solid state blue other than 405nm, until this came along. Now I just need a better source of red and I can finish my RGB projector.

Has anyone found some decent optics for these to keep the spot size small?

The first person that hit the market with them sold an array's worth of diodes at $500-$600 a piece (24x$550=$13,200) Not a bad day's work, eh?

God that would be nice.
after shipping i have a feeling im am going to come out very little ahead but at least we will have our lasers.
Also trying to think of a good way to ship the laser diodes,
had a thought to put them in those tooth cases you get from the dentist with anti static foam.

That way they dont get damaged.
Any advice?

LOL! That would work fine. I place mine in small anti-static bags and place them inside a small, round, gemstone display box.

Re: *445nm lasers* !arrays 550$ and diodes 35$!

You could probably even sandwich them between a couple of pieces of anti-static foam, wrapped in packing tape, and then put them in a bubble envelope. Anti-static bags might also be useful.

Do you send out PMs for payment info?

I can get tooth cases very cheap like 10$ for over 100 of them.
I want to make sure nothing dies due to crappy shipping
Creating a payment site i think it will work best but i am not sure give me a few still waking up was a very busy weekend.

I lol'ed when I read your post.
It doesn't really matter how you ship them as long as they're protected (physically and electrostatically).

Your "tooth" cases are less expensive than my gem boxes.

Re: *445nm lasers* !arrays 550$ and diodes 35$!

I just did a quick search at DigiKey, the cheapest anti-static bags they have are $9.16/100, but they are large 3"x5". Which, still might be ok. Though there would be shipping to pay on this as well.

You may find that you can buy them quite cheaply from a local electronics supply store. I'm not in the US, or I might have been able to suggest some names.

Digi-Key - SCP153-ND (Manufacturer - 1900 3" X 5")

Another option might be pill bottles.
