Ehh, 2+ is kind of weak IMO for such a high powered laser. I always felt the rule of thumb for class IV should be OD 4 or better.

Those look identical to the glasses I have, which are AL2 from OEM Laser Systems. OEM also carries a lens called AL3, which is the same except instead of OD2+ at violet-green, it is OD3+ for violet to green. Those are the ones I'm thinking of getting, and I'm kicking myself now for now just getting the AL3 in the first place instead of the AL2.

Do you have a link to the AL3 glasses pullbangdead? The last and only time I let a laser hit my eye was when I had LASIK done. ;)

I have no experience with the company. They have the chart, and the numbers look fine, but I really just know nothing about the company, what their quality control procedures are like, or anything like that. The numbers and chart are fine, but all I can find as far as certifications is "international laboratory certification". That could mean anything, since it doesn't say what lab and it doesn't say what standard they are certified to. If you trust the company, then they should be fine, but I have no experience with the company.

I bought my glasses from OEM because I "know" the guy who runs the place (he used to post here a lot, still does at other forums), I know that he understands quality control and the ratings that are necessary, etc, and they publish the ANSI standard their products adhere to, as does the NOVA link above. Plus OEM gives a lot of choices for other frame styles for the fashion-conscious laser hobbyist.

The "Visible Alignment" section of OEM's storefront, this page has both the AL2 and AL3 versions linked.

That's the other thing about OEM instead of other sites: OEM is a store designed by laser experts for every kind of laser purchaser imaginable, so they understand and have experience with the types of dangerous lasers that hobbyist sites that carry 3 kinds of glasses don't have any experience with.

I think of it like buying the cheapest Porsche instead of the most expensive Ford. While the most expensive Ford is likely great and all, the cheapest Porsche still benefits from all the knowledge and experience of Porsche's high end cars.

Those offer WAY more protection, probably overkill for you. The AL3 is OD3. The OD scale is a log scale:

OD1: 10% transmission
OD2: 1% transmission
OD3: .1% transmission
OD4: .01% transmission
OD5: .001% transmission
OD6: .0001% transmission
OD7: .00001% transmission

So you see, the AL3 will transmit .1% of incident light. For a 1W laser, it'll allow 1mW through the lens.

For a 1W laser, the ARG will transmit .0001mW of light. Likely overkill. But the VLT is higher for the ARG, so you'll actually be able to see more red light and such. The AL3 covers more into the red range, but the ARG falls off a cliff just past 532.

They will both protect you more than adequately from these blue 445nm diodes.

If I need to buy a new pair... I want to make sure I don't have to buy another set in a year or so ;) especially for only $4 more. So, does anyone have discount code for oemlasersystems.com? The only one I could find was NOR200801 and it expired 1.1.2010
