Gotcha. Most of the talk has been of ~5V.
It's a good thing we are now getting actual numbers.

The thing that is strange to me is that when driving the 12X diodes at above ~500mA some were reporting driver malfunction.
According to the formula:
6.0 * 0.5 / 4.2 = 0.7...

So this means that either the malfunction was not the driver or I am missing something.

Well the specs say a max Vout of 5.5v so maybe the 6v Vf is the problem?

Actually the V5 flexdrive manual states current output as 1.5 amps, 5.5 volts. My digital amp meter read 896ma at the diode. As I mentioned it became very hot as to why I heat sinked it.
As with the Bluray, the V5 was not supposed to achieve 6volts. But in 3 cases mine would. DrLava must be sending me the good ones!

I would not bother with a single reading. When I receive my next batch I plan to do a full plot. That will be more useful to everyone.

Well I already have everyones results in it, and I'd like to keep them all compiled to one graph if possible.

I need to get a new LPM so I can get some accurate power readings from these.....

ff-racer, Your laser build makes me wish i would buy my lathe sooner xD Looks like a lot of fun to make your own custom things that actually fit nicely into hosts. Especially heatsinks

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it once I have it in a portable build, which should be shortly...

Well guys, I am now a proud member of the class IV club!!!!!!!

I have this baby hooked to a V5 flexdrive set to 666mA, I liked my chrome pckt mini red burner too much to tear down, so I took apart an old regular pckt mini red build and reset the flex, I plan to use that host with its copper heatsink!

This laser is amazing, it actually intimidates me, its sooo powerfull, the box I used as a beam stop yesterday could hold for several min before burning, now its a few seconds and its pouring out smoke!!!! Totally devistates electro tape, and anything else for that matter, color doesnt matter, it burns

Here are the new class IV beamshots!!!

This is the cardboard box that practically ignites after a few(2-3) seconds, you can see the line shaped burn from the multi-mode diode! Its not even to its focal point and look at the burns!!!

Re: 445nm diode up an running!!!

This is my 445 nM project - waiting for a diode. It is a defunct housing I bought here.

The machined aluminum mounting weighs 1.3 Oz and with the Aixiz housing, 1.7 Oz. That should provide some mass heatsinking before it reaches the outer shell.
The housing has a warning light and key switch which I will use!
The housing head has room to add a focusing lens as an expander optic if needed!

I'm going to use the new DrLava Boost driver which is rated to go 1 Amp in the documents. What readings are you builders getting for diode voltage? I'm guessing a little less than 405 nM 12x diodes.
Also, if I read correctly, the 445 diode is electrically isolated from the case.

Re: 445nm diode up an running!!!

HMike;

These are the Voltage and ma readings I got on my 445nm build:
3.70 VDC @ 212 ma - Lasing Threshold
3.90 VDC @ 375 ma
3.97 VDC @ 477 ma
4.09 VDC @ 552 ma
4.15 VDC @ 624 ma

Here is a photo of the focused beam with a steel aperture Hi-Power lens assembly @ 14 ft.
I think it is a pretty nice round dot with 2 horizontal wings:

This is a beam shot across 25 ft. :

Love that blue color.

Mike; you are correct in using a large heatsink for these 445nm diodes.

Re: 445nm diode up an running!!!

Larry --

Thanks for the info and pictures. Using a FULLY charged 18650 will ba almost straight through on a microboost. This could get touchy in the 800 mA range.

Re: 445nm diode up an running!!!

Mike;

I'm using a direct drive since the voltage matches up so well with the 4.2 VDC #18650 battery.

More efficient than most switching drivers,
and the 2800mah capacity will operate an hour with very little change in output.

Needs a very good heatsink for any duration.
