I'm an amature laser builder I just recently have been interested in building lasers and have been doing alot of studying of lasers.

In the future I plan on building a 1W 445nm laser I was just wondering if anyone had advice as how I can go about this (recommended amps volts and well of course it'll be 1000mw/1W)
I'm not sure what to use for a battery, what power (im not sure amps or volts?) to run for the diode, I plan on using one of Jayrob's hosts for this build.

I also know that it will blind me in a second if its misused I actually have comprehension on whats smart and stupid and I can pay attention to detail I would.

Thanks =)

What they said man, and welcome to LPF. If you are going to get a host from Jayrob your questions can easily be answered by reading about the build you would be interested in. Jay and many others here will also be glad to answer any further questions too. You will not be disappointed by Jay's work :)

as everyone else has already said, welcome to lpf and just search the forums.
also, you can use a flexdrive set to ~1.2A to get >1W with an aixiz 405/445 glass lens. Many members here (such as drlava and DTR) will preset the current for you for a little extra $. Also, flexdrives work well because as a battery's voltage drops, the current going to the diode doesn't drop (meaning as the battery dies, the power output will be the same). Flexdrives, although more expensive than other drivers, will work with a variety of voltages. My 1.4W 445 has a flexdrive and uses 1 18650. The laser strobes when an unprotected battery is discharged (my protected batteries cut off before this point). It also flashes the laser when/if it begins to overheat; depends on how well it is heatsinked and the current. SO long story short, flexdrives are great.

Thats what I figured, though I've herd linear drivers are more stable in the long run, But I just sent Jayrob a payment for a host so my second build is in progress. I just finished my 250mW red build though I have no idea what the voltage is for the red diodes to power it are I have been told 9v batteries are a diode's insta-kill

Hey I am new too. I recomend DTR for a 445nm build. He has a ton of tutorials and most of his lasers are well over 1W 445's. You can easily find any information you need to build your laser. There is a sticky for his stuff under tutorials.

Agreed. DTR is fantastic with the 445 builds and tutorials. However, it is a bad idea to go with that much power for a first laser.

Welcome (^_^) I just recently made my first build 250mW red, saddly when i wasnt paying attention my friend took a 9v battery and hooked it up... fried the diode within 5 minutes :'( 2 weeks worth of waiting and $40 for the driver and diode just burned out. Good thing diodes are relatively cheap.

I'm currently saving up for the blue build I already ordered a host from Jayrob. Good luck to you and your future builds I would like to see one after you finish it =)
