Default 445 into a NewWish Host?

I still have one of these cheapo ebay bluray pens extra, the ones that goes 30-50mW for 10 bucks, you know.

Can i press out the 405 diode and put the 445nm into? are they pinout compatible?

For the 35mW these pens usualy prooved, the resultiing power of the blue should be at a reasonable level. i dont want more than 25mW coming out of it.

As long as the current the driver is putting out is above 200mW (threshold current of the diode) then you should be fine, although don't expect an output of much more than 10-20mW.

I highlight doubt the driver is outputting that, you'll probably have to replace it with a microboost or something. Also it will need to be running at just above the threshold due to heat issues, the pen host won't handle any more than the threshold realisticly.

The stock driver may not be capable of powering the 445nm diode.
A V5 flex drive set at 200mW would be a better option than the MicroBoost, especially since he is going for low power.
You can hook up the diode and adjust the pot until it begins to lase. The optics in the stock module may not be ideal, however.

Will the V5 run with 2xAA or do i need 2x10440 due to at least 3,95V + Dropout needed?

Have some rkcstr and stuff here, and this O-like 500mW one.

What mW of 445nm would be ~ 5mW of 532nm in subjective (real life use) Brightness?

The stock driver in that pen is just barely capable of 200mA, but that is at bluray voltages. You could probably power the blue diode off of it, but if it got to hot the threshold will move and it might stop lasing.

I would try it before I bought the extra driver, couldn't hurt. The pins are exactly the same, though you would need to solder onto the third case pin, not a problem if you are good at soldering!

Could be tricky. broken a pin from a diode once ago, managed to solder a wire back on it, but it didnt hold. pretty itsy bitsy tiny stuff

Why should i need to solder on case?

Because you have to reconnect the circuit to the positive terminal somewhere. The case of these diodes is isolated so it does not work like a red or IR diode does. So, you would need to connect the case pin to the host so the circuit is complete.

I don't know if the AAA batteries will have enough current for a Flexdrive. I would use a single 10440 or whatever battery and put a spacer in there. You could also put some rectified diodes inline to drop the voltage down sufficiently (4x rectifiers should do it).

Now im confused. the 445 is case negative?
Because the host i ahve is a bluray one. i thought they are pin identical

The diode is case nothing, its an isolated diode.

The driver that it comes with uses the case pin of the bluray diode to complete the circuit, if you can't connect the case to the driver in some way, it will not work.

As far as batteries, aaa's will struggle. But, its a pen and there is really no reason to have it super strong, so I think the AAA's will work, not the best solution though.
