3.5W NDB7A75 445nm Laser Diode


Finally got around to doing some testing on this bad boy. I think this is comfortable running @ 3.5A for a very stable output and 4A max if you want to push it a bit. Here is a quick video.




The divergence of the diode does take a hit compared to the M140's and NDB7875's(9mm 445's) we have been using.

There we have it a very powerful 445nm diode but a with a pretty wide divergence.:beer:

I love how when you scroll through the power test pics fast enough the laser glare around everything steadily increases. thanks for doing these for us all:drool:

Great review, I love the fact that at 900mA there is 1079mW out better than 1 to 1 :D

WOW!!!! That baby really packs a punch.
Lots of power and it looks very efficient, but the divergence looks to be twice that of a M140
and NDB7875 diode. That means that to get a quality beam form this diode it will have to pass
thru alot of corrective glass which means power loss.

I would say the power supply.
Now, we know the max current but what I would also like to know is what is the max voltage these will take before they pop.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but aren't these 3-5vdc diodes ?

On the test I did my voltage was higher and I got more power at 4a got 5.1v and 6w could it have been a rare diode or just my power supply?

Jordan, were you using a G-2 or 3 element lens on these tests? I have been getting 4.7-4.9W at 2.8A current using a G-2.

SOooo....now....we have lotsa power....and efficiency ....in a single diode source....and the " Fly in the Ointment"......DIVERGENCE !!!!

With such a unit...one size fits all !! Screw it on...tighten the set screw....AND....

That beautiful blue beam....is " Hammered " into Optical Submission !!!
....and is forged from a bar....into a round cornered square.....with about 3~4 % loss of optical power !!! A small price to pay !!!!!!!!!

I'm working on this !!! Stay tuned !!!

Man, these are amazing times I can't wait to own both of the new ones you stock (1W 520nm, and 3.5W 445)

Thanks DTR ! Great info ! So mine should be right around the 4.5w range. My lpm just left N.Y., should find out next week for sure. I know it set my backyard on fire last night. :)

Good testing DTR, seems either you tested a less-efficient diode than Rick or something is wrong with his power supply and or LPM(possibly something might be wrong with your LPM?). I find it hard to believe that his power supply or LPM is that off but something must be up off, unless he just had a more efficient diode or you have a less-efficient diode.

Moe, I doubt that a DC power supply such as the Mastech could be that far off. I'd bet it has to do with either that particular diode or someone's meter.

DTR could you do some testing with a 3 element lens and compare the divergence/power output to a standard 7875?

That is around what I was getting. You can see in my video at 3a. I was getting 4.84w at 4.9 volts
