Post 3.5W diode and driver

Hey I have been looks at this diode for a while really tempted to buy it. https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf...w-445nm-diodes I was wondering what would be the better lens to use. Also a host that could be left on for a minute or so.

DTR has a really good rep here. the one for $220 would be your best choice.
I am having Sanwu Lasers via Sci Fi Lasers make me one for about $450. What are you looking for in a laser? Brightness? Burning power? Check with TheJoker301. He is good at builds and has a new generation lens. He is making me two 2.5-3 watt lasers

You could hit up mohrenberg and see how much for one of these without the driver already installed. The back of the heatsink makes a great place to mount the driver.

Hi that's a mean diode I have 3 hosts with them in it. I run them
at 4.0A and they put out 5.550mw or a little les depending on the efficiency on the diode it self. Mind you you heat sink of the host your using in in should be really beefy for thermal heat dissipation. Mag light hosts handle it very well. Jrob makes them to order you won't be disappointed and he has a load of options for that build . It can be simple or you can add the bells and whistles he has to offer. That's a real burner that diode I love them . I myself modified a few maglight flashlights to run these diodes. Just order your diode and xdive in a prebuilt DTR module and solder 2 wires to the battery leads and your good to go. I always have those hosts on hand ready to drop in a diode.
Be safe don't forget your safety glasses have fun buddy :-))

Ok I figured out what I need to do so I buy a NDB7A75 450nm Laser Diode and a 405-G-2 Glass Lens W/Focus Ring put those two together, then I solder the leads from the host to the diode. It won't output 5W but it should output at least 4W. + Rep for all the help!

Hi pal,
With a 3.5 xdrive you will get your 4+w with the NDb7A75 diode no problem . And with a 3.0 xdrive you will get 3+W. And if you go with the 450nm9mm 3W diode DTR has at 2.4 ma you will get 2.3 or 3.2W and that depends on the efficiency of that diode. Basically with that 9mm it's luck of the draw. But your NdB 7A75 will and always give you 5+ w at 4.0 A xdrive. Hope this helps you.
:-))
Don't forget your heat shrink on the solder joints very important. Take your time don't rush the build. That diode is expensive don't loose it. Get ESD protection a mat and a wrist strap for the builds. Static electricity is a killer you can't see. See ESD protocol for grounding out statics. Glad to help pm me if you need more info

DTR said it right Mohrenburg ( Budget Beams ) has a host and sink that will do what you want at a great price. But get the sink for DTR drop in module. Nice build buddy you'll be very happy with the results. :-))

4A will also likely degrade the diode over time and shorten it's life. The data sheet says 3A maximum, of course we all overdrive most of our diodes for extra power. DTR recommends 3.5A and I trust his opinion, but I see no need to overdrive this diode, at 3A you still get well over 4W, DTRs testing showed 4.27W at 3A and Garoq (Survival Laser) is selling lasers with this diode in a parts bundle kit on his international site with 3A drivers and says they average 4.5W. I have one of the older 9mm 445 with a 2.2A driver and it does about 3W+, I can't measure exactly, it smoked the sensor twice on my radiant x4.

Hi there's a guy on eBay his name is Rick Trent . He sells a full copper heat sink for the host DTR mentioned from mohrenberg . I have two of those hosts with them all copper but it takes a 20mm round battery board. Mohreberg sells the boards and flaming pyro does to there about 4 bucks. The host itself should come with two plastic sleeves so you can change from 2-26650's to 2-18650 batteries. Hope this helps you .:-))

Yup, you should just have to connect the wires, and lock the module into the heat sink.

Be sure you heat shrink your wire connections so they don't short out inside the host.

The flashlight came with spacers so 18650 batteries will work as well.

I bought the NDB7A75 450nm Laser Diode In Copper Module W/Leads & 405-G-2 Lens and some 26650 batteries it should output to 4W at 3A using Mohrenberg's drive which is already place inside of the host. So all I would have to do it connect wires, lock module into heat sink and assemble.

Yes Mohrenburg has cool sinks all aluminum drop ins. I myself will order a couple just as soon as my other order is completed. I guess he's waiting on the 501B heat sinks to come in. I ordered 501's, sinks and drivers from him great prices.

Yup, which apparently shipped this morning from china, so they should be here in 3 days i'm guessing...

If I get a driver hammered out that I can produce on my own I'll be able to make 501B kits up to 3A output for like...$25 retail or so...
You could build a 445nm laser for less than $60 with one of DTR's diodes
