Default 2W laser big time problem

Hello, my 2W laser is burning worse than my 250mw red laser, the 2W draws 1.60 amps wich is normal and at night its very bright but when I try to burn it absolutely sucks, and yes, focus is set at 'infinity'. I have 1000uf 10v filtering cap across diode for filtering, maybe that is the problem ?

Do you have an lpm? If so you can check how much your laser is outputting very efficiently. Also a problem I had earlier was that my lens was smudged and was not outputting what I needed. Also, your red might be focused for engraving but 2 w should overpower it even if focused to infinity.

Check your lens and if you need someone to lpm I can always do it. (just got my radiant x4 )

Can you take the lens out and get a picture of the raw output of the diode on a wall? That may show if the diode is damaged in any way. Also what laser driver are you using?

It is hard to tell for sure by the picture but it looks very much underpowered. Do you have a link to the driver. Also what is the power source for the driver? Have you tested the driver with a test load?

445nm 447nm 450nm 1w 1.4w 2w Laser Diode Drive/Driver 3.7V Current Adjustable

a 14500 1600mah battery wich outputs 4.02 volts wich is kidna too high ? Measured with pretty high end Korad multimeter. Nope, I havent, maybe i should try with 3.7 volt telephone battery ? Maybe the high voltage is causing confusion of the driver...

Flat, round, with a hole - they are all laser beams.

What are dimensions of the visible circle in your picture?

So when you got the driver did you put it on a proper test load to set it?

A 3.7V battery is 4.2V fully charged so that is fine and by the specs on the driver should be fine to power the driver. I have seen people have trouble with that driver before with both shorting components against pill housings but most from not setting the driver properly first with a test load or connecting directly to a DMM and toasting the driver from powering it without a load which could be the problem you are having as it then just acts like a pass through instead of boosting resulting in a lower power.

So if you have not put it on a test load yet you need to get one and test it out.

Should I just short it with ampmeter in series ? And btw the 1000uf 10v cap across diode in okay, right ?

No you need a test load. No better option. You can build one pretty cheap or buy a premade one. Not having a solid secure connection between your diode and driver can lead to diode death like putting a DMM in there.
