I haven't posted a build for a while, so I thought I'd share this one with you.
I was actually asked to build it as a present for somebody, so its not mine unfortunately! A very similar build was made by RHD if I recall, so the choice of host and focus adapter is not original, but the building was!
I managed to get one of the last of AnthoT's copper SH-032 heatsinks :thanks:, which as it turned out fitted the small sun host better, so I went with that. I ordered one of Flaminpyro's Hydra focus rings, a 445 from DTR and a 1.8 A Moh linear from Blord. I'm really pleased with the way it turned out, so I hope you enjoy the pics!
The first pic shows the copper heat sink with the drivers IC bonded with arctic silver to a piece of aluminium, which had been sanded to fit in the curvature of the main sink and enable good thermal contact.
As I didn't have a round board, I couldn't use the pill in the usual fashion and so had to invert it to fit over the rectangular driver. To ensure good electrical contact a small piece of brass was hammered into one of the holes in the pill, crimped and then soldered. This worked much better than trying to solder leads directly to aluminium!
The pill was then carefully centred and connected to the heat sink with artic silver, so that the whole assembly could be screwed into the host.
Here you can see Flaminpyro's fantastic Hydra focus ring, which passes perfectly to this host...
and last but not least, the beam shots; I hope you like them!
