19-mode 445nm laser build

I'm glad to see that even other LED drivers work with 445nm diodes.
"NJG-18" is proven driver but it would be great if we can make list of compatible drivers.
Please give us more information about that driver.

I have a lot of cheap boost converters pulled out from flashlights. I'd like to test all these drivers and see if we can make list of compatible drivers.
Bad thing is that I'm out of 445nm diodes.

Almost every flashlight driver has same specifications.
We need to know what chip it uses, what coil and what capacitors it uses, is there pot for adjusting current. High resolution picture will be helpful.

I'll have to buy another flashlight to give you that info. I cant see myself taking this one apart.

The only difference with the 3 mode driver aside from the number of modes is that you switch modes with a light tap of the button instead of a full click of the button.

looks like this was taken from the AS5 website - only there is more to it then that - Arctic Silver Incorporated - Arctic Silver 5

Not Electrically Conductive:
Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)

I personally have had a problem where there was some that would prevent my CPU from booting - went online in the forums and found 2 other people who had the same exact problem as me - it was the AS5 in a small hole on the CPU that caused this, cleaning it out fixed the problem


there is another problem also - AS5 will break down and after a year or 2 it will become a insulator and cook your stuff - it is reported that after 3 years a CPU was dead because of over heating and when looking into it the thermal compound used was the problem, while not AS5 it was noted that that will also have this problem because it was made with the same base material - I saw this on TSS (The Screen Savers) on TechTV back in the day (it was with leo and patrick still so thats how long ago) which turned into AOTS (Attack of the Show)

A while back I tested a 3 mode driver using a test load from one of my SS18650 hosts, and it was 1 Amp on high, and somewhere around 350mA's on low...

I never put a diode on it though.

But I figured that WL is probably using a similar cheap driver for their Arctic...
