1.8A vs 1.25A life time on a 445

As the title says, my second DIY build will be either 1.8A or 1.25A 445 using either JIB driver and a M140 (from dtr's shop) Heatsinking won't be an issue as I'm making a custom host!


What will the respective lifetimes be?

Edit: Also, some people connect the case pin to negative, and some don't... Is there any benefit?

Connecting the casepin is useful when you have a driver that has a continuous negative line like the FlexDrive or an LM317/1085 driver. It means that you don't need a negative input AND a negative output, because the casepin will automatically connect to the negative input; one less connection that is necessary for the pill.

Regarding the respective lifetimes... I really think it's more a matter of efficiency than anything else. There are diodes that will probably outlive some diodes at 1.8A when the other diode is at 1.25A - manufacturing imperfections result in some diodes that are better or worse than others. So really, if the diode you are going to use is extraordinarily efficient (read: outputting more power than current you are putting in), it will probably have a long life at 1.8A. But, if it's only outputting 1W of raw power at 1.25A, you probably should keep it there.

I'll be using a flexddrive for another build (BDRS06J) and the jib for the 445... so bridge the case pin to negative on both seems appropriate?

I guess that would imply getting an LPM to see what kind of efficiency I am getting out of the diode? Getting an LPM seems to be a "conclusion" that I get to a lot lately when I'm thinking of building these things :) Have yet to choose one though!

Yes, to both :p

I would suggest the Laserbee though - it's the cheapest and most commonly used LPM around these parts.
