Great deal! Sunglasses work really well too, but not as well as these. Also, sunglasses don't (unless you like those big fly-eye ones) protect from side shots.
I will definately put this on my "buy when no longer poor as hell" list.

Don't worry people, I am holding a few for my pals! I think with a Blu-ray you can focus much better for the distance that you are using, (burning), with these. They fit over most glasses and unlike sunglasses they will not make your pupils dilate, which would let more BR light in. And some sunglasses make it harder to see in low light. Hey I need at least 3 pair for when I do stuff with BR's & a couple of friends! ;) -Glenn

Like I said before they will cut the light by about 98%, if you are at 400 mW, these will make the dot look like a less than ~10 mW dot, and focusing will be much easier, but I do not recommend any kind of goggles or filters to look into a BR laser! I would say that these are a very significant safety precaution for the DarkLaser even though it would be foolish to take a direct reflection or a direct hit in the eye! ;) -Glenn

hey glenn can you save me one? I'm pretty positive on buying one of these from you in like 2 weeks. I'm moving soon so I don't want to buy it yet and have it sent here and then not get the package.

Sunglasses are :eg:, Yellow googles are , Last thing you want to do is were sunglasses when using any lasers because the will dilate your pupils and let more light in your eyes. If you go to and hardware store and check out the safety sunglasses, and these can cost $30 to $40, even though they look good and they cut down on UV, you need to read the warning label (Do not use for welding or lasers). When the manufacture tells you don't do it, DONT DO IT, nuff said.
:paypal:Scope, I just ordered mine today, thanks

Thanks Tymtravler, you are right, and I would warn, I checked transmission on several bicycling and other glasses and goggles, many yellow ones don't block near as much BR as these do! If you shop for goggles take a BR along and test to see if the dot on a brightly fluorescent item is near damped out! It is a good indication that they do not block enough if the flourescent item still glows more than dimly after passing through the lens. ;)

Grix, Tymtravler, bucken your goggles ship this AM! Thanks! -Glenn

Sure Thanks corey24, I can ship right away. My PP ID is scopeguy20@gmail.com it may be easier for you and I if you PM me or email me your email address, I can send an invoice, also, everybody, I need to know where I am shipping to, as USA is lowest cost and outside USA is a bit more for shipping. Thanks Again! -Glenn

Tymtravler, it would be nice if you did a bit of research before stating stuff like that as fact.
With BR, sunglasses are WAY better than nothing. Dilation of the pupils is minimal and in my research I have found they cut down on BR by 88% to 97%. My research with other wavelengths suggests that sunglasses here do not block enough (IIRC they blocked between about 60% and 80%) to compensate for pupil dilation. However, they are still great for blu-ray.

I would recommend anyone who owns a powerful blu-ray to purchase these goggles, but until you receive them, to use sunglasses.
Your eyes should be valuable enough to invest in the goggles being sold here, but not protecting them until you have these would be foolish - it would be like someone not wearing a crappy helmet when cycling because their good helmet was coming in the mail soon.

Goggles are superior for many reasons, such as less pupil dilation, better blockage, more reliable dye quality, protection from side shots, ability to wear glasses under and probably a lot more, but sunglasses are in no way worse than nothing.

fully agree to that, seb!
*any* yellow looking sunglasses/googles/bikeglasses will block significant blu-ray, even the stated minimum of 88% is a worst-case that i didnt have yet with any of my dozen yellow glasses.

so:
wear *any* yellow glasses, better than nothing!
its obvious that you should do a quick test for yourself, like shining the laser through a corner of the glasses, to see if and how fast it melts through, and how much comes through..

Thanks Manuel, I seem to remember you also contributed to the specific thread about sunglasses as safety googles :)

The 88% was a one-off measurement using some 5$ blue lens insanly ugly sunglasses I borrowed from a friend.. and I am pretty sure the laser peaked at that point too, causing the reading to be higher. Most readings were 96% which is pretty damn good.

Seb

EDIT: Sorry for the threadjack Glenn, I hope you understand that I still want to encourage everyone to buy these goggles from you! They are a really good deal and will probably save several eyes.

Thanks guys! I don't worry too much about what folks post, it's a forum and one can look at the same post and say, thanks for the bump, or be less positive, but I like to be positive & to see some discussion as all who have posted here seem to be adding useful ideas or experiences. Thanks friends, and btw, I have several more gogglrs ready to go. Best Wishes! -Glenn

hi seb,

yes, it somehow got on my agenda to again and again tell people that yellow glasses do work well for blu-ray, dont necessarily have to be expensive, and open a whole new world for watching fluorescence.. :)
..if people have to play with almost class IV lasers in a pointer, paying much money for those, they just *have* to pay a few dollars more for halfway decent protection! I mean, even here in this thread people say "sorry, i'm too poor". for 10$, ridiculous! which often is only 10% of their minimum laser expenses.. its like "i got me a gun, but chose a cheaper one, saved two dollars, its missing the safety pin, dunno lol" :)
