As of Jan 01 2010... the LaserBee I offered here comes

Data Logging capable right out of the box..

This summer we were told by our supplier that the LaserBee I Thermopile Sensor
will be discontinued.
Since the Sensors that we have been using are no longer available we searched
for a suitable replacement and tested a few different types to no avail.

We then decided to have the Sensors manufactured to our specifications to assure
a constant and consistent supply. This has of course increased our manufacturing
costs slightly. The LaserBee I products have gone up $10.00 each across the board
as can be seen on our website.

These New LaserBee I + Thermopile Laser Power Meters have been upgraded
with a new Blue Solder Masked and Silk Screened PCB that now has an RS232
connector right on the PCB.
We have also tweaked the software a bit to ensure the Laserbee I is as accurate
as we can make it.

We have also increased the Sensor active area from 48 sq. mm to 64 sq. mm.
The new Thermopile Sensors measure 8mm X 8mm. Most of you are aware that the
LaserBee I can measure most Laser Wavelengths from about 300nm to 1200nm
and Laser output Powers from 5mW to 1050mW using the supplied Thermpile
Sensor Head. It has no problem to read the 405nm Blu-Ray LDs.

The Standard LaserBee I + Thermopile being offered here also includes the Data Logging
option which includes the LaserBee I User Instructions and PC Interface Software on CD..
so that you can record your test sessions and even print out Graphs of those sessions.

The LaserBee I is a small portable LPM that runs off a standard 9 Volt battery (we use
rechargeable NiMH 9Volts in the shop).
A 9Volt AC wall adapter (wall wart) can be used to power the LaserBee I since we
designed a 5Volt LDO regulator onto the PCB to make sure the electronics stay accurate.
The LCD Backlight can also be switched ON or OFF by the Push Buttons to save power.
Not to forget the LCD Peak Detector display that can also be reset by a Push Button
at any time.

Hey Jerry, hows it goin?

I know I JUST bought your last "old" version of the Laserbee I... I was wondering if i could swap it out for a new model with the blue screen, and different connector. it sounds like the LCd will de-tach more easily. and i need to make an extension cable for the LCD wires (so i can make my enclosure FLAT) and im gunna make an extention for the data cable (can prolly just get a female to male serial cable extention and do it that way.)

But this new model sound so much more efficient.. and i feel like i JUST missed out on a great upgrade... i wish i would have waited now.

I'll pay the price difference if you'll swap with me, and I only used it 3 times for about 60 seconds each. it's still in the box you shipped it to me in safe and sound in the pink anti-statick foam strips you kindly provided

Im just really wanting to have the better version... it will help me complete my project more efficiently, would you be kind enough to do this for me? it is the standard Laserbee I with data loggind, cable is still in the bag, never opene, CD never used, and never touched the LCD screen.

So could we maybe do that if i paid the price difference and shipping?

and just so i know im not wasting your time... is there REALLY any difference between the two versions... like, if i bought one of these new ones with the new LCD, could i plug my OLD LCD into it and it would work?? or no?

I dunno... just feel like i missed out, and this seems so much cooler, and you say it's more accurate as well, thats important to me.

So write me back (PM if you would kind sir) and we'll discuss, if you cant, I understand, but it would be REALLY cool of you! I'll even throw in a PHR sled or two

For anyone wanting to get some of the questions clarified....

There is no Blue LCD...

I stated that the New PCBs have a Blue Solder Mask (instead of Green
like the previous PCBs)...

The only major difference is the DB9 connector on the PCB...

The LCD on all the LaserBee I PCBs detaches by simply unplugging it
from the 16 pin black connector soldered to the PCB.

Okay, I am very seriously considering buying this but I have a few questions:

- You say that its $45 for the enclosure, do we have to assemble that ourselves or does it come completely assembled?

- If we do have to assemble it, how tricky is it to assemble?

- Do we need any special software on our computer to make the Data-Logging feature accesible to our many measuring needs?

I'll ask more questions if I can think of any. Thanks!

Hey Jakob...
as it says in the 1st post... it is an Enclosure Kit.... we supply all the
parts and Assembly Instructions and you supply the labor.

You will need basic tools Solder Soldering Iron,Drill, Drillbits, File, Pencil,
Masking Tape.. You will also need some basic Soldering skills.

You can even mount the LaserBee I into your own enclosure like a lot of
the Members here have done.

As it says in the 1st post... we supply the LaserBee I PC Interface Software
on CD which also includes the LaserBee I User Instructions.

Ahh I see the software part now... I missed it when I read yur 1st post last time. If I bought the LaserBee I Standard without the enclosure in 5 days (when my PayPal transfer is complete), and tried to enclose it on my own and failed miserably, could I buy the enclosure seperately on a later date?

All you guys that bought JERRY'S LASERBEE LPM's are gonna be WELL satisfied with what you get for the relatively inexpensive cost. I have a DELUXE with DATA LOGGING, & I've never had even the tiniest problem with it. I just wish I had a printer so I can print out the LOG DATA. I guarantee that you'll be VERY HAPPY with your new acquisition. I have 1 laser that I'm positive of the mW out-put that I use to periodically check my LPM, & it's ALWAYS spot on accurate. What it says in mW's, you can believe it, ALWAYS. It's one of the BEST laser accessories for my lasers I ever bought........................rob
