Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

I just placed an order for one. Any chance you could limit it to 100mA please? I would have said so in the note, but didnt read the last page until after I placed an order.

I did the same thing, you might want to make a note on the ordering page for people to see just to make it easier on yourself. Thanks for all this!

your name is fitting because you're a laser star, haha :)

yeah, I'm gonna add it as an option on my website as soon as I can.

EDIT: Added it as an option, so you can just select it from the list now!

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

I have some good news and some bad news:

Good news:
With lots of help from Phenol in developing rock-solid stability of the driver, I'll be implementing an improved design starting with the next batch of drivers (starting shipping next week).  In addition, I'll be implementing a better protection mechanism for the driver, to prevent damage to both the diode and driver circuit if polarity is reversed.

So, what this all means is that my driver will be better than ever and will be almost foolproof in usage  ;D

Bad news:
Increased parts cost and because of the time commitment involved with making these, I'm going to be increasing the price on the drivers by a small amount:

-Assembled drivers will be $10 for the adjustable version and $7.25 for the fixed-value.

-Unassembled drivers will be $5 for the adjustable and $4 for the fixed value.

-Test load prices will be a little more at $4.50 separately, $3.50 with driver purchase and $3 unassembled.

Since I have all of the remaining parts I have for this current design driver accounted for with orders, all orders made from this point on will be for the new design, so prices will be effective today.

I apologize to spring it on everyone, but since I've been so busy lately, it all just kind of sprung up on me too. Like I said when I started selling these new drivers, the price was sort of "introductory" and that it may be going up. I hope this won't be too hard on you guys, as I appreciate your supporting me and i enjoy helping you guys make awesome lasers! ;D

Thanks,

Mine arrived in the UK today thanks rkcstr :)
All I need now is a high power blue ray or 2 to go with them.

Guess that means I'll be getting the new design.

Still a good price for what we are getting.

Yes, if you paid the new prices, you'll get the new version.

Re: Micro-Driver laser driver *NOW ADJUSTABLE*

Also, for the high range drivers (~120-440mA), I bought some new pots that will significantly improve the adjustability.

You can check out a graph of comparison:
highrange-1.jpg

Version 1 is the original settings... Version 2 is the new settings. You can see that originally that >75% of the range was covered in less than 10% of the turn of the pot. Now, that same 10% only covers about 33% of the range, making it much easier to adjust the current.

It was still possible to set the current on the previous high range drivers (I was able to set one to 422mA exact with a little fine tuning), but it will be much easier now!

I also am working on improvements for the others, but their gains will not be as drastic, so I will continue to sell the full range and low ranges set as they were previously until I run out of the parts.

You can download the Excel spreadsheet used for this graph and so you can visualize the other ranges here.

Oh, and I updated the site... so if you to buy some drivers, it will look a little different
