Well, I don't to be a pain in the a$# about such a small thing so it's no big deal  ;D

Cheers!

That's decent of you... I wish I got half as good service from another certain person on these forums who will go unnamed...

When do you think these will go out? I'm not in a real hurry or anything...

Also, What is the resistance range for all the combined resistors? I'm thinking of of scrounging a potentiometer off something...

I expect the last half of orders (at the moment) should go out Fri or Sat of this week.

The total resistance range is from 33 ohms (for 38mA) to 3.1 ohms (for 400mA).  Not sure you'll find a 30 ohm pot, though you could just use a higher value like 50 ohm or 100 ohm.  Also, if you're going up to 400mA, make sure your pot is rated at least 1/2W.  You may be able to get away with 1/4W, but you're taking a risk, but unfortunately the ones that fit on the board only come in up to 1/4W.

hmm... I wonder if I could run two 1/4w pots in parallel and just make sure they're dialed to the exact same setting all the time... :D

It may work, but you'll have to get creative about fitting them on there, and you won't have room for a series resistor to limit peak current.

I've also worked out a possible new configuration for implementing a pot for adjustable current.  I posted it in the topic about this driver in the Experiments & Modifications forum, but I don't know if anyone's seen it yet.  I'm currently working on figuring out the price difference and making a prototype to test out to make sure it works properly.

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

hey i got the driver yesterday. 1st off let me say this thing is nice! ;D it doesn't really fit in an aixiz module though...? and i was wondering about the 3rd pin, do i solder it down to one of the pads underneath (if so, which one?) or just cut it?

Are you using a harvested diode or an OEM diode? If you are using an OEM diode, you have to cut the pins shorter. You are probably soldering the board onto the pins with too much distance between the head and the board. Now it is "possible" that Rkcstr made yours too long, but not probable. The board should be right next to the head. Check out the picture in the first post of this thread.

i'm using an OEM 245mW from HTD. but i do have the pins cut that short and it's up that close, but i can't even thread it ONCE around.

Interesting. Measure your board. Mine are 18mm long. There should be about 22mm available inside the aiXiz module when it is screwed completely together.

Peace,
dave.

**EDIT** Also measure the depth inside the module[/highlight]

yea i measured it. the board itself is about 18mm, BUT the back piece is only 20mm itself and the wires take up a little space in there as well so the board is right at the top just under so it's not sticking out, but no way is it fitting.

OK. You may just have a combination of the wires on the board being slightly wider (so that they don't come together quickly enough) and a slightly shorter module. Senkat was talking about the poor QC of the aiXiz modules lately.

Here's a couple of ideas (you may already have considered them);

1) drill the hole in the end of the module a bit larger so that the wires have a bit more room
2) just cut off the closed end of the module (Jayrob dos this to his modules in his red burners to get more room)

dave

Re: Micro-Drive laser driver – fits Aixiz module

Hey, I'm here [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

So, yes, the 3rd pin can be soldered to either pad on the underside, they're not connected to anything, just there to solder a spare pin to.

As for the length, they should all be about the same size, which should fit entirely in the Aixiz module, but it's a tight fit. The interior of the module is about 19.5mm exactly, and my boards are just under 18mm (somewhere around 17.5mm), so there should be 1-2mm of clearance. If you're saying that it is 18mm, then it should be the right size and should fit. Are you sure the board is tight up against the part where the diode is pressed in? Also, I usually pinch the wires close to the board to prevent them from adding any length to the board, did I forget that on yours? If so, you can just make it look like the pictures I have in the first post. Also, take a look in the module back, I've had some that have had blobs of thermal epoxy that needed scraped out before things would fit.

So, take a look through my suggestions and let me know if that fixes it, otherwise, I'll see what else I can come up with.

lol i never would have thought of that, i was just gonna leave it off. guess i'll try drilling it. thanks ;D
