hey guys / Dr lava,

I purchased a microboost about a month ago and finally got all my parts together for the assembly. i attached everything together and tried powering it up but nothing happened.. i took it apart and tested the driver separately and it wasn't putting out any current what so ever. the thing had a preset current at 850 mA but soldering was done a little messy touching the other circuitry so i re soldered the connections as specified in the manual and now im getting current out of it.. 3.4 A!!!!!!!! im thinking WTF now the thing heats up instantly and turns off.. the connections are soldered properly and i cant seem to turn it down.. any recommendations?

should i just send it back to get it swapped?

When you say "touching other circuitry" , what EXACTLY was it touching. As you know there are meant to be solder bridges in places.

Default Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits pens

I was referring to the Micro boost drive. on the 540 - 1A range connection

http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_d...1%20manual.pdf

the solder on the top crossed over the two capacitors connecting directly below and to the right of the connection.

Again there was no current. after removing and cleaning the solder connection and reapplying to the connection i retested @ 3.4A...

Did drlava set it to 850mA for you? If so, I doubt that you can just "swap it." You probably still have a solder bridge (or two) remaining or you removed a component as you were soldering-desoldering-soldering.

Can you post a picture (macro or a scanned image) of the front and back of the driver for us?

Peace,
dave

List of 445nm diodes
Microboost pushed to 1.2A

Microboost is a valuable option to replace flexdrive, it was actually dezigned to power high voltage diodes like 405 and 445nm (correct me if i'm wrong). If you want to finish your build soon get microboost and push to max, otherwise wait when flexdrive becomes available. As simple as that.

sorry for the late reply

here is the images of the drivers

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...828_210126.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...828_210114.jpg

sorry for poor quality.

you can see where i had to redo the solder. i couldn't remove all of the existing solder but again it is putting out current which it wasn't before. The solder origionally covered the are where the bead of solder is along with the two circuit ends below and to the right of the bridge connection point.

I have no doubt that Dr lava had adjusted and soldered it properly the first time unfortunately it was a non working driver when i attempted to use it and now its just acting crazy.

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...630/Solder.png

heres my description of what the solder looked like. As you can see it covered both circuits below and to the right of the contact point.

Be sure the diode ground (-) pad and battery (-) pad are not connected together.
Guess how I know that ??????
