Default Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits pens

More drivers have come in, so no problem with supply

To measure the current output (mA or A) you can use a multimeter in series with the load, please see the user manual linked from the sale page in the first post.

Hi,

there are a few posts in this thread about the issue if the input is over 6V:
2x 3V work if using a diode - ok!
But what if I want to use 2x 3.6V?
That ones:
SAFT LS14500 AA Size 3.6-Volt 2250 mAh Li-SOCl2 Lithium-Thionyl Chloride

No good idea?
Do I have to use two diodes with a drop of 0,7V each to get under the 6V?

I want to use a blue ray diode which is working best at 4-4.5V with 150mA.
What is the best solution with little (heat and current) loss and high efficiency?
Is there too much loss and heat with 2x 3.6V batteries?
Better use 2 normal 1.2V AA batteries and use the burst mode of the flexdrive?
Or is it better to use two of this batteries:
Varta CRAA Lithium Battery Button Top, AA-Size 3 Volts $12.95 free Shipping!

Thanks!
Bye

Hi,
Typically, rechargeable 3.6V batteries have 4.2V max charge voltage. I'd suggest either using 2 normal AA batteries, or one rechargeable li-ion battery and a spacer for best efficiency and run-time.

Follow what DrLava says. I damn near smoked my 12x with 2 LiIon cells and 2 diodes. The limiting diodes smoked but the V5 and the 12x survived.
I was lucky.

Remember: these drivers will buck OR boost, so if you just use a single 3.6 or 3.7V lithium cell, then the driver will draw extra current and boost the voltage enough to lase the diode. I always use just a single lithium cell, personally, and I've never had issues.

Don't use those saft batteries either they suck. They can't deliver high currents because they were designed for low drawing applications.

Ok, thanks.
I will give these saft batteries a chance. I have bought 5 of them for 2 euro in total. So: No matter if they broke after 20 short usages ;-)

Is there any chance to pay via paypal? I dont like Google and I dont have a credit card. Google offers nothing else.

Default Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits pens

I'm about to order three flex drives.... just got some request from some friends to build some lasers. Two will have a preset current of 350mA while the third will be 400mA. I don't think the order page lets me select multiple preset currents so I wil order the 400mA preset separately.
