Thanks Dr. Lava, I got mine today.
Is there a particular forward based diode I should use for connecting to 2 cr123's? Catalog/part#?

I believe 2 cr123-a are too much voltage for these it will use one ok or one 18650 ! :D

i think 3v to 5v works perfect for these

thats precisely why he wants to connect a diode between the batteries and the driver! the diode drops the voltage by 0.7v, which would be (2x3.0v) - 0.7v = 6.0v - 0.7v = 5.3v which is right in the specs of the driver.

you can use virtually any regular diode for this. "1N400x" is "the" standard-diode, "x" replaced by a number, for example. with such low voltage and current it doesnt matter much. just dont use a regular led, because the voltagedrop wouldnt be 0.7 but 3.3v (for example), and at 300mA to the driver, which is through the led as well, it would die (if its no "big" led). all regular silicon diodes work here. germanium diodes, rare and more expensive, would have a 'drop of 0.3v. nice for some cases, but doesnt help us here. and then there are zener diodes and even some strange gold-diodes(!) with even lower drop. but thats another story :)

take any diode (you find in any electronical device), shouldnt be more than 0.10$ :)

while at it: buy 10 diodes (and one resistor) and solder yourself a laserdiode-dummy for testing as well! :)

I saw a pic of the lava flex drive (on another forum) and it had a diode with "9940" printed on it and just wanted to make sure I could use a standard "1N400x" diode in its place.

I appreciate everyones advice on here. Thank you all.

Im still kind of confused. I put 3 violet LEDs together to give me a 5.2V drop. Is that a good test load for a bluray? or will 120mA kill the 3 violet LEDs?

DrLava what voltage would i need for a GBW 4X diode running on the Groove driver??

And what are the power input range for them?
