Ah... Hmm, I get it now, That means I have to set the pot my self then to 140mw, and have them set it to the correct ma. *Sucks I don't actually own a device to detect how bright the laser is, so I know when its at 140mw. *I was planning to only uses this like I do my 30mw laser, like the max it will ever be on, is till it burns something. *I don't run around holding a laser on for over 10 mins... Prob 10-30 seconds max depending how long it's going to take to light something. *That's why I was thinking "If you say it doesn't get that hot, *Is it really needed to heat sink it very good, when I'm using it 5-30 seconds (depending) at a time...

Maybe 125ma is fine for the 803T.. Some youtubes show the 803T running at 125ma..

130mA is good for a long life of the diode, yet a lot of power.

Will the driver works with case positive LD like the 808nm in a Kryton barrel?
Yes, the driver itself can be mounted 'isolated'. Then the 'line in' can come from case positive, and the load can go to how ever you diode configuration requires!

Unless i'm missing something, i'm afraid it won't work.. The diode will get directly connected to the battery and fried or the driver will get shorted, depending on the battery polarity.

Hi guys, here are a few wiring diagrams that are possible with the diode configurations. *The + case connected diode poses an issue but it can be overcome if you can isolate the battery or diode from the case. :-*

Also, Does this circuit include regulators? *Some people do the 9V battery, 5V regulator trick..I figured also the diode comes from a Sony blu-ray burner.

There's no way to test the mw output without a laser and a device to measure the laser right? *

I am sorry to have to tell you this, but you bought an overpriced PHR diode in an AixiZ module. The diode is rated for 60mW, not 150mW.

It can reach 150mW, but not at 110mA. At 110mA, the average power is 84mW (+/-15mW depending on efficiency of a particular diode).. It takes around 150-180mA to push the PHR to 150mW, and that's if it's a good efficiency one. Some have such a low efficiency, that they can't reach more than 130mW at 200mA, and then they die in an hour.

The reason he is selling them as 150mW at 110mA is because he had one measured on an optical meter, which show around 45% too much, sometimes even more.

The good news for you is, that this driver DOES do the regulation at any current you choose, and it will do so from two or three 1.5V batteries, or Ni-MHs or one Li-Ion.

But next time you buy a PHR, buy it here, for a third of the price...

Haha, yeah, that's what i meant.. But insulating the diode often means thermal insulation as well. With metal hosts, you want to use the entire host for heatsinking.

If anything, i would go for electrical insulation of the battery. But that means flat cables in the tube next to the battery, and a hassle when changing the battery.. Not to mention constant repairs of the flat cable breaking from the part that would have to bend to cover and insulate the bottom of the battery..

If a host was designed for this, that would be another story.

I can only see this works in a none-metallic host, project box or labby. It would be too difficult to use in a standard flashlight host. :-/

so i take it the bottom diagram would be the one to use on a kryton bluray build
except the momentary on/off switch is on the neg bottom of batt/case *correct

No.

Igort, in the case of a pen laser like a leadlight, if you have the diode in an aixiz module then there is enough space to surround it with a silicone thermal pad, just like those used on to-220 heatsinks. This would provide thermal conductivity and electrical insulation, and is relatively easy to implement.

That's actually not a bad option! Did you ever try this? Are those pads easy to squeeze in?

I took a somewhat similar approach in a red powered by an AMC. I added two aluminum rings to the heatsink. The two rings had a slightly larger OR and a slightly larger ID, than the heatsink. Then i bonded them to the top and the bottom of the heatsink using "Arctic Alumina" thermal epoxy, which is non conductive.. Then i just measured resistance between the heatsink and the two rings, to make sure it's not conducting.

The larger OD of the rings prevented the heatsink from touching the host, and the larger ID prevents the rings from touching the AixiZ module.

After that, the AMC was able to safelly power the red from a single Li-Ion... It's not ideal, but it works, if you have no other choice.

Hey, I'm new to this forum but I have been dabbling with building my Dorcy Jr blu-ray laser pointer. I have the flashlight and the heatsink and diode are on the way. My friend said that I could use the existing driver in the Dorcy but I would have to solder a resistor inline to decrease the current ging to the diode. Iwould rather not have to do that and was wondering when you would have these Lava drivers in stock.

Thanks,
