Life just isn't fair :'(
Now this sucks...
Hooked everything up, was running fine. Adjusted the pot a few times, worked fine. Then I adjusted some more, slipped just a tiny bit and BAM, there goes the diode :'(
I probably came in contact with one of those resistors(?) just next to the pot. Is there any chance the diode might still be alive? I've tried changing the pot, and the power seems to change, but it just won't lase
EDIT: Might there be something wrong with the lavadrive? I recently played around with the pot to see what would happen, and after a minute, maybe, I felt on the DX module and it was quite warm! I didn't burn myself on it, but I got a bit worried about the heat. A guesstimate of the temperature would be around 40-50 degrees celsius.

you should be using a [link=http://rkcstr.googlepages.com/LPF]test load[/link] and measure the current before putting your [link=http://www.hightechdealz.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=50]blu ray diodes[/link] on, this would have prevented you from having to adjust the pot while diode was in place.
and also, you probably shouldn't have been adjusting the pot while the laser was on... just asking for the diode to die.

Yeah, I know, but I quote Dr. Lava and me:

And the problem was not setting the pot too high, but slipping while adjusting it and short-circuiting the drive.

Same thing happened to me when i was cutting a wire on my DDL driver :'(

Lol, no.
I was putting in a switch for my driver (Before you had to take the 9v battery out to turn it off). So I put the switch in, got all the connections ready, (The switch was turned off). And this ONE wire was sticking out.. So I cut it, and while doing so I shorted the positive end of the driver with the wire cutters (LOL) and 9v went directly into the diode..

OK. You had me scared there. I thought WE had really screwed up if somebody thought that it was OK to do that kind of work with the laser powered up :-/
Luckily I've never screwed up anything by doing some "quick" thing to save a step. [smiley=engel017.gif]

now you know to take out the battery from the equation when doing any kind of work. I'd recommend taking out the battery to adjust the pot even. it sucks to have $20 mistakes.... i've had a lot.

I got mine today too.
But f damnit the diode didn't ever lase, just a faint led-glow. It's dead.
I did a good job with ESD, harvesting etc, but that wasn't enough.
Life sux..

It seems that he lavadrives hates Sweden!
Jokes aside, I know how you feel :-/ So since both our diodes went poof, and we both need a new one, I had a small idea of arranging a mini group buy to Sweden (one of us orders two diodes and sends one to the other) in the near future. I made some calculations, and it should be a few dollars cheaper than buying one alone. I'm not even sure if I can scramble up enough money to buy one in the near future, but PM me if interested.
A bit more on topic: Even though I failed, it's still an awesome driver you've made, Dr. Lava

You use a dummy load to set the current. THEN you solder the diode to the driver.
