Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

Any news on the "mini" version of the 7 color build? Thanks.

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

That reminds me Jay, I need to order a lens from you for the complete build for sale. I better get a spare while I am at it. I have been so busy making parts that I havn't had time to do the fun part of putting the ready built unit together. I'm sure you've been there :D.

Speeking of parts I just finished making a new module head for the little red diodes (3.8mm) that come out of laptop burners and the BDR-202 8X burners. It is made of c110 copper so the thermal condictivity is 388-W/(m.K) which is better than aluminums 237 (pure)
120—180 (alloys). It is just like the Aixiz module head but with a 3.6mm press fit socket for the little reds. Same threading for the standard lenses of course too.

Here are the shots. I have to get the time to make them down a bit before I can give an oficial price but I think they will be around $20+Shipping. Aluminum ones for around $12+Shipping.

Nice! This custom module is for the smaller red diode that comes in the BDR 8X sled? Looks like I will need one of those! We can work it out as partial payment towards the lenses!

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

Yep it's for that little BDR 8X red diode. I made my first White Laser with one of them and I really liked the intensity and the dot pattern. only the faintest line or "DIE" projections out of the one I had. At that time I built a custom heat sink with the press fitting in it. It worked great so I will also be making some lab style aluminum heat sink for these diodes as well.

I hate to see the little beauties go to waste.

Dude,

I'm sorry... I know I told you I would have time to get to it this weekend. It was on my mind all weekend but I had too much on my plate to get to it. That and the ready built 7 color will have to wait till the end of the month.

Again I'm sorry to disapoint,

Hey, no problem man, no sweat!

You're doing great work, we all get busy, I'm in no hurry. Don't worry about it at all, having one by Christmas would be excellent, so no rush at all. :D

But if November rolls around and you have no news, then I might be a little sad, but you're really just doing me a favor anyway. "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth", you know, and I don't intend to.

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

Any recommendations for setting the current of each of the diode to get the white just right, after the beams are aligned? Do you just do it slowly until it look how you like it, or are there any tricks?

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

Well, I can tell you what my settings are using a 50mW green module...

Settings:

50mW Green: (O-like/Stock driver/3.0 volt X 2 in parallel) - 39mW's after sled.

Red: (LPC/FlexDrive/AR acrylic/380mA's) - 145mW's after sled.

Blu-ray: (GGW 6X/FlexDrive/405-G-1/185mA's) - 174mW's after sled.

Color/power blend:

Yellow - 184mW's
Magenta - 319mW's
Turquoise - 213mW's
White - 358mW's

I used a 405-G-1 glass lens only because I wanted to get the power I was going for while keeping the current at a fairly conservative level.

The reason I chose the cheaper AR acrylic lens from Virtual Village for the red, was because I could still get plenty of power at only 380mA's.

Note that the power readings are after sled optics.

I have a good color blend with these settings. But at this kind of power, I believe there could be some differences, and still have good results!

Hey Jay,

do you have a link to those red AR acrylics? I did some searching but no luck...

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

Awsome idea.... I never saw that as a host for this build. I wonder what the internal dimentions are? If this kit is too big then maybe Version 3 will fit in it.

Thanks,

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

I'd bet my right arm that version 2 could not fit in there. Well, maybe if rog8811 was involved...

Probably a 'bare bones' build would go in there though!

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

My kit arrived yesterday. Very nice work. Now it has to wait until I get back :(

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

I'm almost positive I could make it fit. Just a matter of engineering it properly and sourcing a good battery pack and driver combo. I think that would be a very cool looking host, but I'm still partial to the carbon look:)

BTW, Sightfx, your work looks great! I think it's awsome that you've taken this build to such a marketable level. Keep it up!
