Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

Hmmm... good point!

I never worried about the IR from these 50mW 0-like modules anyway. I measured about 5mW's difference with an IR filter in the beam. So it does not seem to be leaking much in the first place.

But the fact that the green beam comes out of the sled at less power, means that something is getting blocked. Any optic will lessen the overall power, but most likely, in view of what you just mentioned, a lot of the IR is getting blocked by the turning mirror! :)

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

That would be an added bonus alright. Easy to test too. The two ways I can thing of are to:

1. Use an IR filter at the output and see if it how much it reduces the output. The only problem is how do you know what was IR being blocked and what was straight up Optical loss.

2. Mount an IR laser module to the Green input and see what the output is.

I will try method 2 when I get a chance.

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

I am going on a 2 week vacation in a little over a weak so kits will not be available from the 8/12/09 through 8/24/09.

I plan on making as many kits as I can this weekend so anyone looking to starting this project this month will need to have their order in by the 11th and hope there is one left. I will post my for sale stock count at the top of this thread when I have them done. There are a few kits being held for some people so if we have made arrangements don't worry I have yours set aside.

Thanks,

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

I have been working my tail off this weekend building these kits. Looks like I will have 3 kits that are not spoken for this week which pretty much means this month.

I also plan on making one fully working 7 color laser in a clear case that will be for sale so keep an eye out for it.

I've gotta say it again...great work!

The shock absorbing idea is cool, but why exactly would you actually need one, is the build on the plastic enclosure not stable enough?

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

In my experience with these adjustable mounts so far, I would say that they are pretty stable...

You will get some settling, and the green may move a little because it is heavier and longer.

But when I say move, I'm talking barely. So little, that you would not even notice it. I am checking dot alignment at 75'. Normally, at 75', you can't see good enough to tell if the dots are perfectly lined up or not.

But since I am bouncing the beams off of a mirror at the other end of my house, I am looking at the dots on the 'round trip' at only 6' or 8' feet away from me on the wall. So at that close inspection, I can see when a very slight adjustment is needed.

I have been letting it sit, and checking it every day for about 2 weeks now, and am now ready to mount it into my enclosure.

But I would recommend something similar. Because things will 'settle' just a hair.

Would either of you be willing to put together (not actually build, just sell the parts together) a kit with the rest of the parts needed for a 7 color laser (like the diodes, drivers, and housings)?
I'd really like to make one of these, but I go back to school in a month and probably won't have time then, and I don't really have time to wait for shipping from o-like (I took 2 or 3 weeks last time).

I was thinking something like a 6x, LOC, and 50mW green. Don't really care about drivers. Maybe a 401-G-1 as well.

Thanks,
Andy

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

I saw that sightfx is building a complete one for sale, so I would PM him about it.

If you would like a 405-G-1 glass lens in there like I did with my build, then I can help you with that...

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

That reminds me Jay, I need to order a lens from you for the complete build for sale. I better get a spare while I am at it. I have been so busy making parts that I havn't had time to do the fun part of putting the ready built unit together. I'm sure you've been there :D.

Speeking of parts I just finished making a new module head for the little red diodes (3.8mm) that come out of laptop burners and the BDR-202 8X burners. It is made of c110 copper so the thermal condictivity is 388-W/(m.K) which is better than aluminums 237 (pure)
120—180 (alloys). It is just like the Aixiz module head but with a 3.6mm press fit socket for the little reds. Same threading for the standard lenses of course too.

Here are the shots. I have to get the time to make them down a bit before I can give an oficial price but I think they will be around $20+Shipping. Aluminum ones for around $12+Shipping.

Thanks Niko.

God forbid you ever dropped one of these but hey....it could happen. Plus the material is cheep and easy to work with other than that tiny nut.

I wish. Work and building kits for people is all I have had time for lately. I don't think I will be able to get to it before my vacation so it will be some time after the 24 when I can get started on that. Darkarmyofone has shown some interest in doing that too and he may be able to get to it sooner. let me know if you want to have a kit drop shipped to him.

Thanks,

Ryan
