I think they cost $35 each. You can make a sound card DAC for $50-100 maybe, I don't know much about that stuff, the OP can probably help filling in the gaps.

Any idea how many flexmods I would need? Is it 1 flexmod per laser or 1 for all the lasers?

Ok thanks. I'll do some more research on how to wire the flexmods and DAC. I think I want to make it so that you could switch it between computer control or portable 7 color laser driver.

The full colour drives has the potential to be wired to a DAC as well, but I don't think anyone has tried it yet to see if it actually works.

Any idea how to do that? Would the flexmods still me necessary?

No, it will be the full colour driver and a DAC. It might need a transistor interface between the DAC and the driver, the only way to know is to test it. It can be wired so you can run it with either the computer software or the on-board programs independently.

So I could change between the computer controlling it or using just the pre programmed patterns?
That's exactly what I wanted to do. :)

In that case I will be ordering a loaded kit with the full color driver soon in the next month or 2.

If it doesn't I will just use an actual DAC from DX. That's the DAC everyone usually uses.

The DAC is not the problem. The driver may not agree with the frequencies that the DAC put out and damage the driver.

I know of 3 who have Flex Mod Scanners with this kit. They work fine

EDIT: I thought you were talking about the FlexMods not being tried sorry... Spaghetti supports TTL now I think so I think your driver will work too. I have a sound card DAC I can try it with this week.

It is much more expensive for sure but you get much more control. It is also less portable when you include the x/y scanners, DAC and Computer.

Lazer - If what your looking to build is a portable full color spiro then FireMyLasers driver is the way to go. Lots of great effects, less cost and more portable. If you are looking to do more animation type effects and have more control then expect it to cost and go with the flex mods, DAC, Computer software.

I don't see a DAC from DX. There is a External Sound Card that is often used with this board: http://hacylon.case.edu/ebay/laser_diode/LaserBoy_Correction_Amp.php to create a sound card DAC. Spaghetti is the software many people use for this DIY scanners and it supports a sound card DAC.

I was kind of hoping to be able to switch between using the DAC and computer and using the full color driver. That way I could switch between portable mode and a more advanced mode that is not so portable. Do you think that would be possible? I imagine you would just have 2 different circuits that you would change between using a 2 way switch.

That is possible and that's exactly how it will be, if it works. I can make some schematics on this..
