For DVD burner sleds the pinout should be the same.

I hate to rain on anyone's parade, but Jake had some "new" diodes that were supposed to be high powered diodes as well (new in the package). He couldn't get them to work. They ended up being case positive, 5mW diodes.

Do you not have a DMM with a diode test selection (or just not know how to use it)?

Try hooking the positive lead to the case pin and the negative lead to the lower left pin (case pin up - your left) at low current ~60mA

im gunna do that RIGHT now... that sounds exactly like what i revieved... if these ARE case positive 5mW reds, im gunna be MAD...

Any refference to them having windows or not? thought you may remember, and also glad you shined that light, case positive is the last combo i would have tried. Thanks,

But mos def count me in for a fully set up kit with 6x and all that goodness, (turning mirror too ^_^) thats such a lifesaver.

I can only afford the part for 4 loaded kits at this point and I have 7 people waiting...you’re the 8th.

ugh... you were right on the dot dave, except i got 19mW's out of it at 59mA, i'd try to go lower, but have no rkcstrs i wanna slice traces on right now.

The case pin was the positive pin, and the "usual" positive was the negative, i ramped the driver up VEEEERY slowly, and got up to 21, then it slowly reduced, and got dimmer as i turned the pot all the way up. then died..sort of, it still puts out 1mW, but thats worthless, im very dissapointed with these results, as the supplier swore up and down and bragged and whatnot, so i was like sure... i'll test them for you. now i have to report bag a negative review, wich i was hoping wouldnt be the case, i wanted to find the next best red diode for us! lol, oh well... back to swuare one.

do you think they are still only 5mW diodes Dave? were they reading 19mw's because i was running 59mA (rkcstr minimum, unless trace is cut) to the diode? im thinking i was probably overdriving it, but it survived for over 2 minuets at 59mA, and then i started to turn it up a notch

I guess, if these are capable of surviving fully at lets say 50mA, then they could be cheaply sold or donated as 10-15mw diodes. but i want to let one run all night in a heatsink at 50mA and see the results in the morning befor ei offer any for sale, or donate them. i must be sure my results are accurate.

But what a bummer, i had my hopes up really high, that we had found a red diode capable of 300mW's without the meredith lens, that would've been a ste-forward for the community.

I may throw them into the raffle after the tests,

Mh... what are the each losses of the optics?

This could come in handy for my projector project, as i have not much space and wont mess with mirror mounts etc. avaiable are 100mW green, sfad210 lcc and 6x bluray

Hi there,

I've just picked up on this site/thread/product and I have to say that it looks like a fantastic alternative to the hassle of setting up an optical table/aligning dychros etc.

Just a quick question - I, like many others I expect have cobbled together my three lasers from different sources over time, so my current RGB(V) collection looks like:


I guess my questions are around:
- would it be best to mod your mounts to accomodate my laser cases as they stand?
- (or) would it be better to remove the diodes? - and are these be mounted individually into your holders (it without any lens?)
- (or) would I need to buy 2 more Aixiz cases+lenses, extract my Red & Green, and mount them? (and can you source these?)
- how the heck would I extract my Green - the pointer body seems like it's a single piece tube!
- How about cooling - I'd like my resultant head to run for hours not minutes so I'm interested in ways that you or other forum members have kept their diodes cool? (Fans, TEC/Peltier?)

BTW, my diodes shown are 'supposed' to be: R:100mW, B:250mW, G:250mW - all pretty bright but it sounds like I'll need to trim powers (I've got Norms 3xdiode driver on the way so shouldn't be an issue??) and pay close attention to heat dissipation.

Hi Dan,


The red and blu-ray mounts fit aixiz modules. The Green mount is a standard 12mm to fit the whole green module piece. The only issue I can see is your red. I would bore a bigger hole for your red but it would wreck the holes for the adjustment screws. Red diodes are the cheapest though so I would get another red diode in an aixiz module and use that. Removing your current diode is not worth the risk of damaging it.


Heat can be dealt with in different ways. I have one build I am working on that uses a peltier and 3 cut to fit heat sink blocks where the fins on the blocks fold in between the fins of the kit heat sinks along with heat sink compound. The blocks are then going to a copper plate that is pressed to the peltier and heat sink on the other side.

Another thing you can do is run it at a power that will allow you to have a constant duty cycle. The heat sinks that are in the kit will do a good job of cooling so you shouldn’t have to turn them down too much. The test is to see if it can run for an hour and they are not too hot to comfortably touch. Of course you check it at 1min, 5min, 10min, 20min…

Looking at that red, i see that what resemble a set screw ..... are you sure that is not a standard module fixed inside a brass tube, and holded in place with that set screw ?

If so, i suppose it can be removed, and the inside module used, too

Any pic of the front and back of the red one, for try to understand better ?

well to be perfectly honest, he's looking at a red that is the lowest color of all and a module that isn't designed for this setup. would be sooo easy to just purchase a LOC diode in an aixiz for this project.

Uhm, you're right, also, the red need to be, i think, more high power than green (as the BR) for balance the white level ..... mine was just an idea, seeing that set screw on the side of the brass tube
