Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

Alignment is proving difficult, then my LPC fried!!! everything is pretty much ready to go, FML is gunna trade me one of his RGV drivers for a GGW-H20L sled, so i cant wait for that!!! so for now, until i get my LPC's, im at a complete stand-still, theres nothing more i can do, it's too hard to alight with the fattish apearence of the blu-ray beam, it's just tough, would be MUCH easier to start off with a red than a blu-ray.

BTW - i came up with an idea for a slide-on diffraction grating slot over the aperture exit, i think it'd be EXTRA cool to be able to slide in different gratings for different effects with all sorts of colors!, im also working on obtaining a rechargablee hi-capacity li-ion cell with the charging cuircut built in, so i dont ever have to open my case, it's also a thick rectangular shaped li-ion batt, so if i can get it to fit, and find a 9v version (or use two) then i can make it rechargable via USB or something fancy. but im not worrying about that right now, i just need them red diodes BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD, i need em ASAP.

So im DESPERATLY hunting two LPC diodes for myself, but no one seems to have any...

Do you have any spares? i need em by friday, or im in a pickle... i have sleds on order, but they take a bit to get here unless i pay $20 bucks for express shipping

So does ANYONE have TWO or THREE LPC-815 diodes they would sell to me? I desperaty need them before my deadline, anyone who helps me out on this one will be greatly rewarded :D

Thanks in advance guys,

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

No LPCs here sorry. I am working on gathering red and brd stock for a few complete builds but nothing here yet. Find a little reds from 203s and use that copper module head I sent you for 3.8mm diode :)

I'm going to use "copper heads" for both my red and brd.

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

Im still waiting on some copper heads Sight! pm me?

I wonder how the beam quality of that 3.8mm diode will be! or if it will even work in this application.

Man, wheres an LPC diode when ya need one...

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

did it? i never got to do my tests on it! What were your results!!! share share share!! i have 1 or 2 3.8mm diodes left :) i wanna know if their worth selling. think anyone would be interested? i guess i cant really sell em till the copperheads come out though, BUT i DO have one copperhead (wich IM keeping :D, and that other finned heatsink you made me, the labby style, member? so i have two to use, maybe i'll get around to testing one tommarow when i get back from Charlotte!

Show us some results if you got any :) quite curious, untreaded ground my friend! untreaded ground :)

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

I don't have an LPM :( so I don't have results data like that. All I can say is that it looked like a LOC when given the same current. Actually it looked better because the die (line going through the dot) was almost nonexistent.
The blend was working out with an 8x BRD but it died when I was rebuilding it all in another enclosure with Flex Mod drivers rather than the Norman’s RGB driver I was using and didn’t really like (the PCB seemed to be a cheap run board where the traces would come of the board real easy and I had to fix the traces all over the place). Anyway somewhere in there the little red diode LED’ed so no data 

Thanks,

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

aaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwww bummer!!!! i'll get us some info, remind me tommarow night sight, and i'll rip one out of the two pioneer 8x drives i have left-over from builds, and i'll press it in the copperhead! if all goes well, theres my new red diode for my 7-color!!! no-wings = VERY desirable to me. i HATE wings, im sure you all remember the Splash thread i made a while back where the wing issue came up ALLOT, maybe these will become more desirable because of that. who knows!

I'll do my best to get some results for everone (power graphs and whatnot) as long as i dont donate my LPM to the raffle first. :D i really wanna help LPF out bad, but i need it for a FEW more things, then i wont have a need for it, at least not for a while, as once my build-plate is clean, it's DL's only, no builds. too much of a hassle for now.

talk to ya then,

Isn't that why I gave you the Copperhead...so you could collect data:whistle:

Just busting your chops. I know your busy so I'll just spam you till you do it :)

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

lol! i know, i know, but you understand, customers always come first. I'm concentrating on my last 9 builds! (FINALY!!!) "im reffering to customer builds from a month back or so" once i get those done, ALL i hav to do, is sink as MUCH money as i can into Dark Lasers as i can!, ("while leaving a little for LPF via the raffle ;)"), AND to get ALLLLLL the testing i've been meaning to do, DONE! i cant wait Sight! cant wait to have more free time, more time to try and actually enjoy this hobby, instead of stressing over it, and the tribulations that come with building lasers :) I really do enjoy it when im not rushed, and overwhelmed. This hobby truely is an amzing one, so glad i found Jayrobs photos on google on day, and found LPF :D

I'll see if i can squeeze time in this week, or next for the copperhead test results before i donate/sell my Laserbee I (obviously i need that to graph and meter the diodes ^_^)

I want to get all sorts of reading, at at least 10 diff currents, including death current (Max current wen it died) wich would be the 10th, i'll also print all the graphs i can on this diode, as far as we know, theres a SMALL chance this diode is MORE capable than the LPC-815! also because of it not having huge wings in the splash! that interests me greatly, and i have a Meredith lens on hand i believe, if not, i will order one for the cause :)

i'll get it done, i promise!

Does ANYONE have ANY tips on extracting this VERY delicate little diode from it's heatsink? i have broken one already (tonight) because the heatsink itself knicked the chip or wire of the diode... so i have only two left, so i was just wondering if anyone has any experience extracting these 3.8mm red LOC diodes, and has come up with a safe method. Thanks in advance anyone who replies :)

Thank you too sight for the copperhead to begin with :D how many people have these?

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

I have removed 3 so far and one was doa from me or before that who knows. I use the same method I always use. I file away one side of the heat sink with a triangle jeweler’s file. In the case of an open can like this I always file away the heat sink on the protected side. away from the open area of the diode. Then when I see the side of the diode I use an X-acto knife to pry out the diode using the diodes rim and heat sink as leverage.

edit: I always file with the diode in a vice. Filing is quicker and the vice keeps debris from getting in the diode. A shot of air at a distance will clean off any remaining debris without damaging the diode. Then I take it out to pry out the diode.

Get one of those diodes and a copper module in Igor's hands and then you'll know what's up with it...

Just a suggestion ..... being an open can, also metal dust can ruin or contaminate it ..... when filing, close the hole in the heatsink with a piece of adhesive tape, and then blow all away (with the tape still on) before extract ..... i lost a short open can for metal dust contamination, times ago.

There's some good pics of these diodes in the heatsinks ? ..... i'm curious to see a thing.

Re: Custom 7 Color DIY Laser Kit

I was using tape like that but I found I can cover and protect the open front with the vice and it's easier. You just have to make sure to blow away and debris like you say. In this case before you open the vice. An easy mistake there is to not have something grabbing the diode well enough when you open the vice. I dropped a GGW BRD from a standing height that way and it knocked the window lose. I opened the can and it worked but only about half power.

EDIT: I will get a pic of a diode pressed in the heat sink when I get back home to Montana. Till then here is the first pics I posted again...

Hey Dark,

you should lend the module I gave you to IgorT so he can put it on his cycler. I don't have any working little red doides or I would donate one.

Thanks,

Ryan
