Default Re: FS: Mini Green Kit! SCHWEET!

I just sell the kits with no module or battery. The kit pricing is in the first post... (links to the modules are there as well)

But this 'Mini Green kit' needs some module modification unless you go with a DX module.

An easier build is my DIY Green kit, which fits any standard 12mm module:

lol. yeah i meant what would an entire build cost shipped to the door.

but ok. this module:

DealExtreme: $33.33 100mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm)

would fit into your mini green kit without modifying the module itself? or would i still need to use the other kit? and then, i would basically be set with the module, this kit, some batteries and a charger?

EDIT: oh and probably an incredibly stupid question but i've been out of the game for awhile... a 3.0v cr2 battery is best suited to this right? or would a 3.6v cr123a last longer on short duty cycles?

Default Re: FS: Mini Green Kit! SCHWEET!

For the DX module, the only modification needed is to by-pass the switch, and make sure there is a negative contact point to the battery. There are pictures in my first post for the DX module fit...

But yeah, besides the small amount of soldering to bypass the switch, the only other thing you need is a 1.5mm Allen wrench for the set screws, and a battery.

You can use a CR123 or an RCR123. It mostly depends on what the module is rated for, but many people use the rechargeable batteries for these modules.

It's hard to say about capacity. That depends on the driver, as well as the battery brand. But if I were to guess, I would definitely go with a primary. Because most Li-Ion's aren't the stated capacity. And there will be no 'boosting' voltage needed for the pump diode...

Usually with these cheap drivers, you will get more output power with the rechargeable, but you also may be putting more stress on your module...

so if i buy this kit and the dx module, how do i bypass the switch if i never solder in my life? And is it possible that you can cut the spring of the host beforehand? Also where can i buy the wrench and soldering tools?

Any local hardware store for a 1.5mm Allen wrench that you need for the set screws...

You can get a soldering iron just about anywhere too.

Do a search on youtube for soldering and there will be video tutorials for you...

It's best to shorten the spring (if needed) when you do the assembly.

Other than that, the first post is a 'picture tutorial' of the easy assembly...

Yep...

Just remember that only a DX style module, or a 50mW (modified) o-like module with fit this host... (see first post)

I have a different kit that will fit any standard 12mm module. I call that one my 'DIY Green Kit':
FS: DIY Green Kit! Host, Heatsink - Easy Assembly!

I Highly reccommend this host for a dx green module, they fit perfectly in combination with Jayrobs machined heatsyncs...You can probably get away with not shortening the spring(imo) but you'd most likely have to position the module further forward which does not look aesthetically pleasing. It is very easy to shorten the spring, I assure you, even if you just cut it.

I will try to post pictures of mine in its disassembled form this evening. You will be able to see where I have bypassed the power switch and how I have modified my spring to accomodate the spacing of everything perfectly.

Be back in about 5 or so hours.

Peace

3450.

Hey peeps, as promised

The host:
Imageshack - 10052010099.jpg - Uploaded by thirtyfourfifty

The DX module placed into a Jayrob sync(thermoconducting paste present):
Imageshack - 10052010096.jpg - Uploaded by thirtyfourfifty

Where I have bypassed the momentary switch:
Imageshack - 10052010097.jpg - Uploaded by Imageshack user

Replaced and resoldered softer style spring from a ~2 dx flashlight.
Imageshack - 10052010098.jpg - Uploaded by Imageshack user

Hope this helps.

P.S I havn't attached the machined aixis focusing ring to the end of the aperture for 2 reasons.
1. I have decided I like the look of the gold.
2. It's alot easier to swap out the power of the module without snapping glue everytime.

The laser fires up everytime without failure. The syncs are so efficient it takes quite awhile for my 5mw modules to heat up.

Peace!

3450.

Nice job!

Thanks for posting back with pics...

About the machined out focus ring, I used JB Weld, and just glued the edge onto the face of the heatsink. That way the module can be removed if need be.

The only thing the focus ring does, is hold the dust cap on there. So the glue is plenty strong enough for that.

But it's just a matter of choice. The brass look is nice too...

I haven't bought from that seller, but from the picture it looks just like a DX module. And if so, it would fit with the DX modification shown in the first post...

My Green laser from DX 200 mW
I use everything that is in the house.(Antiques.)
To create green laser
It does not look pretty.
Because. I do not Lathe.

I know that it is dangerous.
But there is no better alternative than this.
And I do it successfully.
