That is one awesome laser.I have a question about the output power.Are you sure that you are getting 1.8watts using the 445 glass lens? If so, that is amazing. Usually to get more than the input(ma) you need to use the 405 g1 or g2.

Looks like I made a mistake. I've been using the 445 lens, as the dot is much cleaner. (also it seems to burn better at longer distances)

I will need DTR and Jayrob to confirm as I do not have an LPM, but with the 445 you might be looking at somewhere around 1.7W and with the 405, somewhere around 2W.

The 405-G-1 will burn better, but at shorter distances...

As far as power, the AixiZ 445 lens will be about 15% less than the 405-G-1, but at that current, who cares!

My 2 D Maglite kit will be the best setup... (IMO)

Using the FlexModP3 driver, and 2 X 32600 Li-Ion batteries. (make sure you find the 3.6/4.2 volt ones - not the 3 volt ones)

Here's a cool accessory that can be easily attached to any D size Maglite: (Excimer found this and showed it to me)

It is milled from 6061 aluminum...



I bought one just because it was cheap... And I wanted to see how it feels. It's a high quality CNC machined assembly! The trigger is really nice! I took a short video just to show how the trigger mechanism works. Mounted on a 2 D Maglite: (No laser built into this light, just showing the trigger)



The trigger is a momentary on as you pull it. Or you can push it forward for constant on.

Don't knock it till you have tried it! A laser on a trigger is an amazing feeling...

Yeah yours needs a special tailcap/rifle buttstock modification!

When I look at the huge front surface of that heatsink I cant help but think of putting three lasers into it, a red a green and a blue in a triangle. It wouldnt even be very hard to set up, green has its own driver then just a flexdrive for red and a flex for blue. It would have plenty of power to run them all, you would just have to set up that fiberglass tube thing so that it is a parallell pack. Then it would be three lasers in one, or maybe even using some dichros a very ambitious person could make this bad boy into a 7 color white monster.

Ohh I wish I had the money to make that.
I really hope somebody else will atempt this, as long as jay would be willing to drill the heatsink accordingly.

That sound like a great idea, and an idea that has been floated around before but would be difficult. Green modules are case positive and reds are case negative. I'm sure some bright minds could figure it though!!!

There is one person who is already ordering a host/heatsink combo with 4 holes for modules...

But I'm not sure what the project is exactly for.

If it's for combining beams, that's a very tedious job. Some kind of adjustments for the modules and/or optics would be needed...

I didnt think about the red diode being case negative, but im sure it can still be done somehow.

Yes it would take an extreme amount of precision and time to alling properly, but once done set it in epoxy and the result would be amazing. I've had the design layout of the dichros and mirrors in my head for a few days and just drew it out in paint.

The whole thing is on a copper version of the heatsink because i had to many gray/white colors. The things that are gray center, black outline are front surface mirrors. The maroor center, black outline thing is a reflects red dichro. The light blue center, black outline thing is a reflects blue dichro. The whole thing would be held in place with epoxy with a metal cap over the front with a hole for the final beam exit.

Yeah I read through it once a while back, pretty sweet. I really like the looks of those heatsinks.

That thing is small enough that you could probably fit one inside the heatsink for the madlite D.

That sled assembly would be difficult to fit in a Maglite...

But some like rog8811 could probably do it!

I really don't have time to try it. Maybe one day...

It would be a really challenging project!

Once I get enough money in my laser fund I am going to try to build rgv handheld. But that will probably be the project after my next project (which is after my current few ).
