This was your first build?

Nice job then...

This tight little build is not what I would consider a first build at all! Very limited space... Plus you have to disable the stock circuit an all...

Haha well I have a lot of "tinkering" under my belt from other projects plus I took electronics through high school (soldering, wiring, printing circuit boards) and an electrical engineering tech diploma.

I did still have a short to the case and probably damn near blew up my battery but once I fixed that then yeah no problem. it seems like there is something loose in the diode because it does it with both the glass lens as well as the acrylic it will have a tight beam then there will be a line coming off it and when I roll the laser tapping it it will go away and then randomly come back.

any chance you would have an idea what my laser output power would be at 160ma with your glass lens?

I know that I have tried two of those diodes at 170mA's, and both were right at 200mW's. (405-G-1)

So you can figure about 190mW's for 160mA's...

About your diode. It sounds like maybe the diode window is loose. Not an easy fix, but I have read about some who have carefully glued it in place...
