I got your order for the lens assembly.

Concerning the adjustment of current on your existing BR laser, the most common low cost supply for laser diodes is the LM317 constant current type.

They are adjusted by changing the sense resistor in the output lead.

I will send you the proper resistor for 125 ma output at no charge.

Here is a pictorial layout of the LM317 layout I modified for BluRay (125ma) from rog8811:

The center terminal on the regulator is the output of the LM317.

Review Update:

After Milos reviewed this lens on his Red laser, he stated that this particular lens had the tightest beam profile....
of all the ''lens types'' he has tested (including Meredith Red Glass).

That shows that the shorter Focal Length produces the tigher beam.

Since it is unsurpassed in producing BluRay power, this lens gives you the best overall power production in...
BluRay and Red lasers (without the particle-producing cut spring).

ColdStl tested one of the "new higher cost Chinese 405 nm lenses" . . .
and states "not worth it to me.
So I paid roughly half the price for about 1/3 of the power".

This is probably also the new lens that Aixiz is said to be bringing out.

He got a . . . . 9.3% increase for $31 invested . . . vs.

Hi-Power Lens Assy - 28-30% for $54 invested.

Plus, longer diode life, due to reduced reflection...
and a narrower beam.

Hi-power lens arrived today! Thanks for the quick shipping Larry! I'm looking for a flexdrive and either I'll use it with PHR or GGW but I want to see a quite visible violet beam out of my diy host made on my lathe. Or maybe a very bright 650nm. Edit: I am assuming that most "150mW" blu-ray LD's are PHR's.

Most PHR's do not run quite that high if you want long life.

I would say a 4X is in that power range.

Let me know when you test the lens.

Yes, I will review it when my new LD/driver arrives. Edit: Just a heads up to anyone connecting their LD to a new circuit. Don't put the on/off switch on the output of the driver. Instant LD death. LOL

Any constant current power supply will cause voltage spikes...
if you open the output circuit.

Switching should only be done on the inlet side.

I edited my LM317 drawing to show the proper location for the on-off switch.

Sorry about off-topic. I tried the circuit with dummy load and got 122ma with a 9V battery. I'm thinking I'll add 30ohms in parallel with 10ohm sense resistor for 7.5ohms and see how close that gets me to 180ma.

That 180ma is OK, if it is a 4X LD or higher.

I hope that this diode has a long operating life.

Its a 6X, and I have a flexdrive on the way. I soldered on my leads to some very short pins on the GGW. Then I put a couple of drops of epoxy on positive and negative points for more connection strength. I'm nervous about using the DIY driver on a 6X. Too bad I don't have an expendable PHR to throw on it right now. A sacrificial lamb. I'm using a 2.2uf 50v cap and the regulator gets pretty warm. Not sure how well it would function at 180ma.
