Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

So all you have to do is pull out the IC from the socket and connect the pins from the DAC like this.

Will it work? I don't know, but it should.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

I was thinking a switch to turn off power to the PIC and some OR gates to buffer the input to the rest of the driver would make it switchable. You could even run them at the same time but that would be chaotic.

I don't have FML schematic, so i can just try to imagine, but suppose that the out from the pic go in the photocouplers ..... if so, you don't need to add nor gates.

Depending from the configuration of the photocoupler (high or low signal driving) you can just use these systems ..... if the photocoupler is driven high (common ground, so an 1 signal turn it on), use this system

If instead the photocoupler is driven in reverse ( positive common, so a 0 signal turn it on) use this one.

And just turn the PIC off, when you want to use the TTL inputs ;)

EDIT: diodes are 1N4148, forgot to say this :p

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

None of your schematics makes sense, sorry.

I wanted the mod to be simple, but if you want to be able to use both the IC and dac on demand with a switch, 1N4148 diodes on the rgb-pins on each of the IC and dac should do it, to prevent any voltage going backwards into any of the two. Or-gates I think is a little much, but it should also work.

LOL !

I don't have your schematics, so i have to try to imagine how you hooked the PIC to the LM through the photocouplers, and there's only 2 ways for do this (well, only 2 ways for NORMAL users :p) ..... and ofcourse, i drawed only one of the 3 lines, cause the other 2 are identical :D

Two diodes and a resistor are, practically, nothing other than OR gates, with the only advantage that are smaller than an IC and can be "dispersed" here and there, where you have space ..... and about the 2 schematics, are just for drive the optocoupler with the same positive TTL, regardless the fact that you used the output of the PIC in sink or source mode (source = led with negative common and PIC output ON when level "1" > scheme 1 ..... sink mode = led with positive common and PIC output ON when level "0" > scheme 2)

You may also modify it with a 4PDT switch, if you used source output, like this (so you don't need diodes, NOR gates, and also can not care about turn the PIC on or off :p) :

attachment.php

Ofcourse also here i drawed just one of the 3 lines, the other 2 are identical ..... and you can always use the 4th line of the switch for drive a pair of leds, or a bicolor led, as visual status indication ..... (ok, next modification will be the mind reading ability, so the driver can anticipate the whishes of the owner, and turn itself its state ..... :D)

I hope Ryan gets the drivers soon, it will be interesting to see if it works in practice. :pop:

Me Too :D

My Home office window points out front so every day I see the postal worker not bring them too me :(. I expect I will see them tomorrow or the next day by the latest.

The only reason I thought OR gates is the simplicity, size and cost. One 29 cent chip and no wory about reverse current to the pic or over driving the bias to the laser drivers.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

Yay!

The mail man had some packages for me today!!! I got your drivers and man do they look good. I also got the White Fusion heat sinks from MisterWilling so I am so conflicted now lol. Do I shirk off my commitment to get people there kits on time so I can play with this new exciting driver? Well good thing I need a kit of my own to go with this thing or I may have gone dirt bag and selfishly took the time right off to play.

I will have time this weekend though once this run of kits is all out the door.

Nice workmanship though! :gj:

Ok so I'm done building Kits for a while. Next on my list is to put this driver to work and see what it can do. Expect a review soon.

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

I got done with adding this driver to a White Fusion late last night and got a motor + mirror timed pretty good with it today. I'm totally impressed with this setup. Can't wait till tonight so I can create some smoke and take some time tunnel videos to show you all.

I would like to add a spiro that uses 2 tiny stepper motors pulled from sleds attached to speed controllers. The reason for steppers is to prevent the variation in speed you get from more common tiny motors like pager or micro helicopter motors. My only concern would be choppy performance. Anyone know if a stepper speed controller that will drive them nice and smooth but constant speed when set? Don’t you send more of a sine wave input rather than a square? I will do my own searching but I would like to know if anyone has had good experiences with doing anything like this.

Thanks,

Yes sir :salute: :D

Realy I just got back home so I'll give it a shots. My smoke machine is at my place in the states so I don't know how good it will turn out.

OK

Long day and I'm going to bed. I realy need 2 things to do this driver justice.
1. a better speed controled motor.
2. My smoke machine.

batter camera and more work setting it up would help too.

anyway here is a teaser:
