Nice, FML! I knew you'd go ahead with this :)

Whenever I get my internet back, expect LONGcat diachi+FML+Niko convos on MSN!!

SO much for that, hasn't even been on tonight! :poke:

Great work FML, looking forward to the proto being finished. When it's done I'll get to work on the proper board! ;)

Good job! Very interesting.

Yes! I'd like to get one.

At first I thought you were saying "Fuck My Life" lol.

Back on topic, this is awesome. One day I'm going to need to have a RGV laser, and this driver is definitely a win for it!

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

The prototype has been put together and is working. I can't say yet if the board will be sold on proto-boards or on factory made PCBs. I really hope I can have a company print them for me because proto-boards are such a headache. The prototype took all day to make and I just can't do a bunch of them this way . If I make them on PCBs they will be a little smaller too.

This board got a little messy because it is a reused one, in case you're wondering.

I've testied it with an RGB LED with 350mA per channel.

I will do allot of tests tomorrow on a PHR diode at 100mA for an extended time to see if it makes any problem. I no longer have any green or red lasers :(. So far I've discovered that the LM317's get very hot quickly at 350mA/12V and will need heat sinking, so I'll have to make a solution for that. I'm using an outdated micro-chip so I wont bother posting a video till I get the newer version any day now I hope :)

Please leave feedback on what you think so far, how you think it will fit with the White Fusion kit etc. Ask questions!

Been running a PHR diode in a bare module @ 100mA all day without breaking a sweat! Again, please post feedback if you have the White Fusion kit, since I don't have one it is very hard to know if I'm on the right track.

The board looks good, and glad it's working well. One thing though, would you possibly be selling it as a parts kit with a circuit diagram instead of assembled on a board?

With proto-boards there's no way you could assemble it yourself. On a scale from 1 to 10 in difficulty it's a 12. But if I can get the boards factory made, then it would be very possible.

Alright.

So do you have a recommended host in mind? I see how the parts fit together, but I was hoping to be able to fit it into a clear box like the one that sightfx posted an image earlier. Just from comparing your drawing in the OP to his image, it doesn't quite look like the board would fit in his box, but it seems liek the components could be wrangled in there if one was careful. But if you are sizing the board to fit in a particular, fairly small, host, then that's all good.

Believe me I've tried so hard to make it this size, I don't think I can possibly make it any smaller. Because it is on a proto-board atm, the components are restricted to the 2.54mm spaces between the holes. On a custom PCB I can put the components as close as possible, and will get even smaller. It may by then fit in the clear box, I say its 50/50 right now. But to be honest I don't like that box, the smart thing to do is to use a metallic box. You'll just bolt the regulators to the wall and it will be a great heat sink!

Uhm, not necessarily ;) ..... i see a lot of free space, on this protoboard ..... :) and you can use 4-pins optocouplers, instead 6-pin ones, too ..... for the 12F micro, nothing to do, anyway .....

Ah, well, i suppose that other peoples are just not crazy like me, when they mount prototypes :D

You're forgetting all the TRACERS on the bottom, silly. :p

Yes the opto couplers could even be SMD, but still they don't contribute any extra space, because of the odd shaped board. So I use these ones because they are very common. :)

Re: Feeler: full colour driver extension for the White Fusion kit

As we discussed with FML, I truly believe this can be put into a mid-size custom host to make it pointer style; that is, when the driver gets manufactured on factory. Remember rog's pocket uber spiro? That was a big style RPL, which could fit the driver plus lasers if arranged in the way FML showed me (if you uploaded that picture people could start brainstorming for good :)).

Right now I try to just focus on the driver. :)

Traces, traces  ..... wait, what ? ..... you really mean that in prototypes you always keep all the traces under the board ? :wtf:
