what kind of diode is in them?
is it a 5.6mm diode so that we could swap them out with some BR and loc diodes?
Hey all, a while back, I ordered 50 5mW 8mmx13mm red laser modules (650nm), and then figured i had no REAL use for them except to play with, and make fake laser security systems for my friends houses lol (just a beam accross their doorway, nothing more)
ANYWAYS, these modules are rated at 5mW's, BUT i have measured quite a few of them at 10-12mW's, meaning these are very efficient little red diodes!
Also, they come in an 8mm x 13mm module, that easily unscrews, has a spring (PERFECT for 405-G1 lenses!) a removable lens (ANY normal sized lens will fit, even bare 405-G1 lens, or meredith red lens. these modules all have the overspec diode still inside them, with the driver still attached. you could removed the diode, and press any diode you wish inside! it's 100% compatable with ALL 5.6mm diodes! also, the modules are made of brass, so good heatsinking for a PHR or something.
I dont have any real use for these except for mounting laser sights on guns for a few friends. the beam's dot can be seen from quite a ways away, these are BRAND NEW, never been used. Each unit contains:
* 5" of wire
* a driver of some sort (that runs off 3v's, BUT i ran 6.8v's to it for 30 minuets and it output almost 25mW's and DID NOT DIE!!! amazing!...)
* the "5mW" red diode, wich is obviously capable of MUCH more than 5mW's
* a spring about 5-6mm's tall, same diameter as our normal springs
* a columnating lens, wich easily come out and can be replaced with ANY lens
* and the headpeice, these laser modules ARE completely focusable
I'm mainly selling these to see what people can come up with, i'd like to see a super small host that will accept this module, and have someone put a PHR in it, and see how small we can go
ASKING PRICE:
$1.80 each, no minimum order.
OR all 50 for $55 shipped free anywheres in the world
SHIPPING:
USA - $1.41
INTERNATIONAL - $6.50
I cannot garuntee EACH module will reach 25mW's like allot of them do, but these are most definately over-spec, and im just trying to clear stock, as i dont need them.
These modules retail at $5, so im taking a little hit on them, but better to sell them to people who can use them for good, than have them sit here in their anti-static bag forever.
Grab-em up guys, These little things are FUN! it'd be cool to see someone puch one or two to it's absolute maximum, and see what we can get out of them! highest i've reached so far is 26mW's using 6.4v's as the power input, even though their rated at 3volts. maybe there is a resistor to keep the votage at 3ish volts, but i DO get a higher reading with 6.4v's than i do with 3.0v's
If you like some, or all of them, drop a line here, or prefferably PM me, all orders will be shipped the same day as payment is recieved, as long as it isnt too late in the day, they will get shipped the same day
Hope you all can find some good uses for these, i've already used 50 of them for various things, and am selling the 2nd half of the batch for almost free. no sense in charging full price, i just want em off my work-bench, and into the hands of someone who can find use for them.
PM me with any questions, photos are coming in just a bit, gotta break out the cell-phone for that, but may get ahold of a digital camera tonight as well, and will provide Laserbee readings as proof, and just pictures in general. for now here what they look like. oh, YES these ARE Aixiz modules, official aixiz product, never used. only tested. I will also meter each one before selling it if you so desire better to know before you buy than to take a chance.
I want everyone to feel safe when buying, so if you desire a meter reading, simply ask, and i will do so
Hope someone can find use for these, if i sell a few individuals and someone wants the rest of the batch i will adjust the price accordingly
Best wishes,
Tyler - Dark Lasers
I received these modules from Tyler (DarkArmyofOne) today. The sipping was fast and the packaging was adequate.
It was very obvious that Tyler's environment is NOT a smoke-free environment. That is not a problem for me. However, if you have a sensitivity to tobacco smoke, be warned.
The first thing that I did was simply to count them. There were all 50 in the group. Two of them had sustained significant damage and had pins broken off. Out of 50, 2 being broken is not a significant problem. They just got handled a bit rough.
Next was to see how much over spec these actually were. Tyler said that they were over spec. He had "measured quite a few of them at 10-12mW." I set up my Scientech 365 LPM and my variable bench power source and sat down to measure my booty. The first one measured 3.5mW. Darn! No problem. I still have 47 more to go.
One by one I hooked them up to 3VDC. One by one they measured a very consistent 3.5-4mW. I measured ALL of them, one at a time. Of the surviving 48, 45 of them measure between 3.5-4.0mW. Three of them measured below 3mW. Where were the "quite a few" that measured 10-12mW? They must have been in another batch?
OK. They really are only rated <5mW so no big loss. However, Tyler also said that he ran one at 6.8V for 30 minutes and that it put out almost 25mW. That must be the ticket. I'll pump a few of them with higher voltage.
I turned the first one on with 4.5V. It measured 3.6mW. OK. How about 6V then? -- 3.6mW DANG! No problem. Let's see what it does at 7.5V -- 3.6mW! OK. 9V it is then. -- 3.7mW . . . . . Hmmmm. This must not be the one he tested at 6.8V. Let's try another
I tried 14 more at voltages up to 9V. The drivers regulated the current very well.
It is glaringly obvious that either Tyler needs to get his LPM calibrated, or he needs to learn how to use it, or he needs to learn to tell the truth about what he is selling.
I will not be asking for a refund on these. They are producing at the actual rated level for them. They are just not ANYWHERE near the output that Tyler claimed in the OP. If he measures 3.5mW off by up to 20mW too high, that does not bode well for any of his measurements.
I will send some along in the Veteran's swap box we have running around the country. I will decide what I need/want out of them. I will entertain the several requests I have had after people figured out that it was me who bought them. Finally, if there are any left, I will offer them to the membership at large.
Peace,
dave
