I swear man, I thought of this as soon as I got my kryton! Sad thing is: I don't have a lathe.

Besides, yours looks much better than anything I could throw together . Nice mod, Jay.

Thanks for the props guys!

But our hats go off to Kenom for designing such a great host! Yes, this Kryton EzFocus adapter gives it more functionality, but we wouldn't even bother if it wasn't such an awesome design in the first place! 8-)

Thanks man! You guys are too kind...

But feel free to spread the word to Kryton owners!

If you have a Kryton, this really is a very nice add on. Especially if you go with one of my Meredith or 405-G-1 glass lens modifications.

Jay
It will be yes, but the diode in my Kryton somewhat blew (only outputs like 10mW now) so I need to get it repaired first.

I did try to put your lens on, it fits fine if I have no spring at all.

If you have a couple of wraps of Teflon, you should be just fine without a spring...

I use both, but have to cut the spring in half and bend the cut end to form a clean finish. This is easy to do if desired:

Something like that would probably need to thread on there Ken...

I would like to learn threading operations on the lathe. But I never have looked into it thus far. My old Atlas lathe does have this capability:

Maybe a good thing for a future project after I learn more.

Knurling is actually a new lathe operation for me. I just read up on it, and learned about the proper spindle speed for the size of material, bought the knurling tool, and it works great! 8-)

Have you considered tapping a thread for the lens(es) directly into your finger grip rather than gripping the Aixiz ring? This *might* be an improvement, since you could probably allow for a lens to focus closer to the diode, especially for the acryllic lenses. Your lathe is pretty impressive - does that mean that you do all of your work by hand? I could never manage that level of accuracy . Sadly, my school's main lathe is so old, it doesn't do metric threads at all (which is annoying to say the least) and the CNC lathe has been broken for the last 4 years. I have ended up spending maybe 3 hours making a heatsink, lathing and drilling by hand, whereas a CNC one would have taken less than 15 minutes to do the same work :-/

FYI, I will be buying one of your lenses as soon as I get my hosts from Rob.

Hey Charlie, that's a good idea about threading the EzFocus adapter onto the AixiZ nut!

Of course, it would mean more work. But I do have the 9mm Tap and Die for the AixiZ threads....

I'll kick that around a little.

Yes, I do all of my machine work on that small Atlas 6" lathe. It's old, and parts are hard to come by, but it is a very nice machine for soft metals like the 6061 aluminum that I use for all of my stuff. The spindle bearings are in great condition and I just replaced the counter shaft bearings not too long ago. So she spins smooth and true...

About the 405-G-1 glass lens, I have stock, so just let me know when your ready!

Mine arrived today

From it's first look (and feel) it's very nicely built. I got the knurled option, and it feels quite funny on your fingertips

I do have a query though - the black rubber ring (ehehehehe) on the inside, am I meant to take it out? I tried to put the glass lens I got off you in there, and it really feels like it won't fit - or it would break with the required force.

I also don't want to take the ring out until you say it's ok to, or I might break it.

That aside, I don't currently have my Kryton to try it on (being repaired), but I'll get back to you all (probably with pics) on how good I'm sure it is

Thanks again, Jayrob

Pro tip: buy his stuff, it's good quality.

Hi Adam,

The fit is tight inside the o-ring. You have to have it perfectly straight all the way around for it to 'press' in...

If you just touch the tip of your finger in some water, (I'm talking a very little amount) and wipe the top corner of the AixiZ focusing ring first, it will make it go on easier.

Just to mention it again, I'm talking about a very small 'smudge' of moisture. Not anything that could get on/or in the lens assembly...
Jay

Hi again,

Done it I lightly licked (lol yes you heard) the silver side of the lens holder, and using a flat surface to help, it slid right in there (hehehe). It's very tight in the adapter now

It fits like glove jay.
I my self love the silver on black look.
This makes adjusting jay's meredith glass lens so much better. and the gap needed to adjust is perfect.
Great machine work ! Now this laser is complete,it better be as the laser was just $54 and jayrob upgrades .. well let's just say "priceless" (Like about $90 priceless)

Oh man! That does fit on there nice!
That's just some good measuring from you man. As long as the measurements are accurate, then the finished product will work!

So I guess we now have the 'dilda' EzFocus adapter for the Meredith glass fit for AixiZ lens modification. (any other lens, and the EzFocus adapter would have a different gap between the back of the adapter and the front of the laser)
